Chapter 26

By the time I heard about Walter again, a month had passed.
His company, which had long been on the verge of crumbling, had finally closed down half a month ago.
Immediately after that, he found out that my stepmother had been sleeping with other men behind his back for a long time.

Walter was so angry that he had a stroke. He had no choice but to live out the rest of his life on the bed.
Finally, Walter and the Young family could no longer threaten me with disgusting acts.
I felt relaxed after I heard about the news.
At the same time, James had come home to pick me up for dinner.
However, halfway through the drive, I felt something was off. A strange smell in the car made me feel a little nauseated.
I frowned and turned to look at James. Simultaneously, he turned and looked at me as well.

We immediately understood what we had in mind when we locked eyes.
I held my breath and pressed the button to wind the car window down.
As expected, the window was locked. There was no way to open it.
I looked at the driver.

James had two regular drivers. One had a family emergency, while the other caught the stomach flu the previous day. This driver was their replacement.
James' face darkened, and he asked, "Who sent you?"
The driver did not answer. He just drove faster.
Our bodyguards were in the car behind us. They stepped on the gas, trying to force our car to come to a stop.
James notified the bodyguards as soon as he noticed something was off.
The driver floored the gas and chose to go down the mountain at the intersection in front.
The cars chased each other, and neither had the upper hand.
My brain gradually became foggy because of the gas in the car. All I could do was to grab James' hand tightly.
"Don't be scared, Leah. I'm here," he said, holding my hand tightly.
As soon as he said that, our car crashed into a huge rock.
Before I lost consciousness, I could feel James hugging me tightly, protecting me with his body.
