Chapter 22

However, it was already midnight, yet James still had not returned.
I texted him.
James quickly called me and said he would not be coming home that night because something had come up at the company.

I forced myself to hold back my disappointment and told him to take care of himself and not to overdo it.
After I hung up the call, I looked at the two dolls I just brought home.
James had spent most of his time working from home in the past few months. He would rush home before eight at night even if he had gone to the office.
I had gotten used to having him around. It felt strange to have him suddenly spend the night at the office.
I lay on the big, empty bed, but I could not sleep. I then got up and went to the studio. I planned to kill time by painting.
I sat quietly before the canvas and thought about what to draw. As soon as I picked up the brush, I could not stop.

It was after sunrise that I put down my brush, and I immediately started to feel sleepy.
I put the painting away, returned to my room, and fell asleep as soon as I lay in bed.
The next thing I knew, I was awakened by James' kiss.
I opened my eyes in a daze and saw him sitting by the bed, kissing my eyebrows.

Seeing I had opened my eyes, he kissed me on the space between my eyebrows again and said, "You're awake."
I hummed drowsily in response, wrapped my arms around his neck, and kissed his lips.
"When did you get home?" I asked.
"I just got back. I'm here to grab a file, and I'll have to head to the office again." He rubbed my head and said, "I heard from the butler that you hadn't eaten anything today. Are you feeling unwell?"
"No. I had a little trouble sleeping last night, so I slept late," I replied.
"Get up and have some food before you continue sleeping. I'll grab a bite with you," said James.
I noticed that James was a little tired at the dining table, so I asked if stayed up late to work the previous night.
"I stayed up pretty late." He rubbed his temples and said, "I only had less than three hours of sleep."
"I—is the company in trouble, or is it because of something else?" I asked.
James snickered upon hearing that. "Why would my company be in trouble so easily? Don't overthink it. We're just expanding our business lately. That's why things are busier.
"Let's go traveling after this. Our honeymoon only lasted ten days. It was too short," he said suggestively.
My ears gradually turned red at the thought of our ten days of activities in the bedroom during our honeymoon.
