Chapter 19

James and I were trimming the roses in the greenhouse at that time. I almost thought my ears were playing tricks on me when I heard what the butler said.
I could not believe it, so I asked, "Did you say Brad is here alone to see me?"
"Yes, Mr. Coleman is waiting outside the door. He's holding some things. He said they were gifts he had prepared for you," the butler said.
I frowned and started feeling annoyed.
The Blackwell family was powerful. Even Brad's parents had to be respectful toward James. Where exactly did Brad get the guts to show up at our home, requesting to meet me, who was already James' wife? Was he challenging James?
Brad thought he was being devoted, but that would only destroy my peaceful and comfortable life and create countless troubles for me.
I looked at James, feeling a little guilty and embarrassed.
Brad was not my ex-boyfriend. He was my dark past.
James held a budding rose and carefully trimmed the thorns on the stems before slowly putting it in a white vase.
After finishing all that, he looked up and said, "What do you want to do, Leah?"
"I won't meet him," I replied.
I was living a great life. I did not want Brad to ruin my peace and happiness.
If I were to meet with him, Brad might think I did not mean what I had said.
I honestly did not wish to see his face again.
"Alright." James held my hand gently. "As you wish."
