Chapter 18

James could not walk but was a million times better than the average man in bed.
He never let me off the hook throughout our honeymoon.
My life after marriage was far more comfortable than I had imagined.
James was highly influential within the Blackwell family. He had my back, so everyone in the Blackwell family was polite and respectful to me. Even his parents did not give me a hard time at all.
His father was semi-retired, so he spent most of the year taking his wife on vacation all over the world. They did not live with us even if they were back in Clason City.
I had only met James' parents twice after being married to him for two months.
James' father was a middle-aged man who looked highly dignified. He was a man of a few words, so I mostly talked to James' mother.
James' mother was a chatty person. There was never an awkward silence when I was with her.
Also, I could tell that she was pleased with me. She also respected me because of James.
I also reunited with my siblings once during their school break. James arranged it so Walter did not dare to butt in.
Jewelry and clothes from the latest season also continued to be delivered to my home for me to choose from.
I was only a woman, so of course, I liked pretty clothes and jewelry.
I picked up my paintbrush again with James' encouragement and returned to painting lessons.
My best friend thought I was in a shockingly great state when she visited me.
We went shopping and had tea. She also told me a lot about the gossip in the capital.
The fact that I had married James had caused a sensation.
"They thought you would stay by Brad's side no matter what, just like you did in the past. They didn't think you would marry someone else instead, and you married James at that. He's the uncrowned king of Clason City. Brad isn't even on the same rank as him," she said.
James was disabled, but he was not a person any ordinary family could reach.
My best friend looked smug as she said, "They were all stunned. Some even made wild guesses, saying your life must be a living hell after your marriage.
"They also said that James must be a pervert because of his disability, and he probably was abusing you every day. They'd be miserable if they found out you're living such a comfortable life."
After Brad was dragged home by his parents, he broke up with Zoe.
Of course, Zoe was reluctant and caused a scene twice. As a result, Brad took his house, car, and jewelry from her. He even froze Zoe's account.
Zoe could not stay in the capital anymore, so she had no choice but to leave overnight.
Brad's assistant, Sean, had also been fired.
Since I was not interested in all that, my best friend changed the topic and winked.
"Leah, you're glowing right now. It looks like your husband has been taking great care of you."
I smiled at the thought of James. However, just as I was about to say something, I heard someone calling my name.
I was shocked that it was Brad.
He was in Clason City again. He must have been keeping tabs on my best friend's whereabouts. That was why he was able to find me.
I immediately signaled my bodyguard to stop him.
Brad looked even thinner. His handsome face looked a little haggard.
The bodyguard stopped him, but he refused to give up. "Leah, I just want to talk to you."
"We have nothing to talk about." I got up and told my best friend to leave with me.
"Leah, I know you only married James to spite me." He sounded desperate as he continued, "I saw the things you've given me. I saw the coupon as well. Leah, I'm giving you this coupon, and it will never expire. I'll give you whatever you want."
He took the coupon from his pocket and tried to hand it to me.
"Leah, I promise I'll marry you when you divorce James. I know I'll always have a place in your heart. After all, we've been together for years. James isn't a good match for you, Leah. He's violent, and you'll suffer," he said.
I was so angry that I sneered.
"Brad, what gave you the illusion that I married James to spite you?" I asked.
"You and James had never met. He's disabled. There's no way you'll willingly marry him—"
"Brad Coleman!" My face darkened. "Say another word about that! I dare you!"
James' legs did not work, but he was a hundred times better than a man like Brad.
"Throw him out. I don't ever want to see him in Clason City again," I ordered the bodyguard before dragging my best friend away.
Brad seemed to be surprised that I was so firm. He was utterly stunned.
"Leah, are you still mad at me?" he asked.
I did not even want to say another word. I turned around and walked off.
An arrogant trust-fund kid like Brad probably had never been rejected by a woman. He was reluctant to accept that he had lost what he once had. That was why he still refused to move on.
I would not waste another second on a man like him anymore.
