Chapter 11

Brad's expression did not change after he heard what Sean told him. However, his fingers wrapped tightly around the glass in his hand.
Sean was sweating.
"Mr. Coleman, m—maybe Ms. Young is just acting out of spite," he said.

"Acting out of spite?" Brad sneered.
Sean hung his head, not daring to breathe too loudly.
In the next second, Brad kicked the coffee table. All the glasses on it shattered, creating a mess.
Everyone else was stunned as they looked at him. There was a pin-drop silence in the room.
Brad sneered a couple of times and said, "The audacity that she has. How dare she pull this trick on me? Fine. Let's see how much longer she can hold out before she gives in."
Brad looked at Sean calmly and asked, "Where are the things?"

Sean bowed lower and answered, "Ms. Spencer saw it a few days ago, so she took them and threw them away. I didn't stop her since she was about to get engaged to you."
Brad shot him an icy glance and said, "Great job, Sean."
Sean almost went on his knees. "I'm sorry, Mr. Coleman. I won't do it again."
Someone helped to ease the tension and said, "What's the point of getting mad at your assistant? Besides, Zoe has saved you the headache by getting rid of Leah's things."

"That's right. If you were the one who received them, it would be a perfect excuse for Leah to harass you."
"Oh, come on. Even if Brad didn't receive them, she would surely come and harass him. She's been with Brad for years. Everybody knows she won't be able to survive without Brad."
"She's just playing hard to get now because she wants Brad's attention."
Nobody thought there was anything wrong with what they had just said. They even thought that that was what Leah would do.
After all, they had seen her do just that too many times in the past five years.
Brad shot a glance at Sean and barked icily, "Fuck off."
He had always hated people making decisions without consulting him. Sean's behavior had gotten out of hand.
Sean did not dare to say anything. He quickly left the room.
Everyone else realized Brad was in a bad mood, so they left, too.
Brad leaned against the couch. He felt drunk and closed his eyes.
His friends were right. Leah loved and cared about him so much. She would not leave him. She would not let him get engaged to Zoe without doing anything.
She might have refused to yield that night but would surely show up at the engagement party the next day. She would probably rack her brain to ruin the party.
Her life with the Young family was terrible. Brad was the only one who could save her. Unless Leah were stupid, she would never let go of him, her savior.
Eventually, she would figure it out, and she would go back to him.
Thinking of that, Brad finally felt much better.
Since they had been together for five years, he might give her a way out if she showed up.

Zoe was dressed in a fancy white gown at her engagement party. Her makeup was flawless. She looked young and beautiful.
Brad wore a white tailor-made suit, making him look tall and extremely handsome.
He was surrounded by friends who looked delighted.
He chatted with them, but he kept looking at the door occasionally.
Less than 15 minutes before the engagement party officially started, yet Leah was still nowhere to be seen.
Brad started to get irritable.
He forced himself to hold back the anger and chugged his water.
With only two minutes left, he glanced at his watch and asked, "Have all the guests arrived?"
He had said it casually.
"Of course. The party is about to start. All the guests have arrived. They are just waiting for you and Zoe."
Brad held back the annoyance he felt and got up. "Let's head over," he said.
All the women in the hall were dressed to the nines. Zoe's close friends surrounded her, and she looked happy and bashful.
Brad scanned the room and did not see any signs of Leah. He could not help but feel incredibly testy.
He turned around and looked at the door in the distance, but there was nothing unusual there.
"Brad." Zoe walked up to him bashfully and took his arm. Then, she said gently, "The engagement party is about to start, and I feel a little nervous."
"It's just an engagement party. What's there to be nervous about?" Brad brushed her off. Suddenly, he saw Zoe's earrings, and he was stunned.
"This is our engagement party. I care about it very much. That's why I'm so nervous. Ah!" Zoe suddenly screamed in pain, making all the guests turn to look at her.
Brad's face darkened, and he asked, "Where did you get these earrings and bracelet?"
