I thought we had $10-20 million at most, but it was ten times that.
I nodded and called Dad’s old business partners.
He hosted a dinner party, announcing his return and handing me the reins.

Hearing this, his friends lit up,patting me on the shoulder and said,“Emily, your dad’s finally back!He retired early for grandkids, but three years later,he’s out for you!”
I felt guilty:“All for me.I can’t just sit at home.Time for me to make my own mark.”
“That’s the spirit! Why don’t you start at my company!”
Uncle Harold,who watched me grow up,offered a job:“Work with me,get your feet wet,then take your time.No rush,just have fun!”
“I’ve got a new project starting.Do you want to get involved in?”
“Count me in.”

I agreed with enthusiasm.Dad smiled. That dinner marked a turning point in the market.
Dad’s reputation still carried weight in business circles.
As his daughter,I was one to be underestimated.
Harold recruited me,not just for old times’sake but for our family’s clout.

To boost Nathan’s career,Dad’s network had played a key role in his rise.
Now,I was taking over the reins.Nathan was out.
After dinner,I packed at our apartment.Nathan stumbled in,stinking of alcohol.
No surprise, his assistant girl drove him home.
Seeing me,he snorted. But spotting my luggage,he snapped,“Emily, what are you doing?”
“Divorcing.I told you.”
I handed him the divorce papers and said,“Return my$3 million investment.I want nothing else.”
“Sign it.She’s waiting,isn’t she?”
I glanced at the girl. His face flushed as he said,“Fine! You’ll see!”
“Great.9 a.m.tomorrow,courthouse.”
I dragged my suitcase out.The girl smirked, but I ignored her.
Want him?Take him.I’m done with him.
At my parents’ place, she sent me a friend request. Her name was Chloe Bennett.
She shared a video of Nathan in bed, his hands interlocked with hers.
His pajama pants peeked out. He’d worn slacks coming home.Who else could have changed his clothes but Chloe?
No shame.
Good.If he’s involved with her,I’m out.
I texted her,“Did he sign the divorce papers?”
“Chloe, you’re not so irresistible. You got him in bed,but he still won’t commit!”
She raged, but before I could send an emoji, she blocked me.
She can’t handle it.
I chuckled and pocketed my phone. Then the door pounded as someone shouted,
“Emily,get out here!”
“You little brat!Daring to divorce?Who do you think you are?”
