I looked at her,took her badge,and toyed with it,raising a brow and asking,
“You think I live off him?”
“What else?Mr.Spencer works so hard.You don’t deserve him.Get lost,and stay away from the company so he’s not embarrassed!”
She snatched the badge back,pinned it on,and strutted off.
I sneered at her back.Everyone thought I was Nathan’s little woman.
But no one knew that when his company struggled early on,my family invested $3 million to save it.
As it stabilized,I worked behind the scenes,using my dad’s contacts to funnel orders to Nathan’s firm and paving his way to success.
Now that the company was steady,he wanted to burn bridges?
Nathan seemed to have forgotten how humbly he begged for my help.
It’s only been three years.He probably thought my family fell on hard times since we moved from a mansion to a condo and then a small apartment.
I laughed.My parents just found the mansion too empty for two and downsized.
The mansion and condo were still ours.
Back home,my mom frowned at my state and asked“Why’re you alone?Where’s Nathan?”
“Mom,Dad,I’m getting divorced.”
Mom gasped and asked“Divorce?Out of nowhere?Are you sure?”
Dad’s face darkened and he asked,“Three years and now divorce?Did we upset him by mentioning kids?”
I lit a cigarette and exhaled,“He thinks I’m a freeloader who doesn’t deserve him.”
My parents laughed and said,“He thinks the Harpers are broke.You’re not working,so he used you and now wants to kick you out!”
“Does he have someone else?”
I nodded and said“Pretty much.”
Emotional cheating is still cheating.I wasn’t certain,but Nathan’s attitude toward that girl told me they were closer than normal.
Mom slammed the table and shouted,“Cheating during marriage and daring to judge you?Divorce him!”
I was stunned.Mom soothed me and said,“Don’t worry.The Harpers don’t cling.We don’t need his company!”
“We’ve got enough to stand on our own.”
Dad led me to his study and handed me a stack of documents.I flipped through them and said in shock,“Dad,you own all this?”
He grinned and said,“Of course.No resources,no risks.The$3 million was pocket change!”
“If I’d thrown$300 million at him,he’d have latched onto us like a parasite.”
“Your mom and I wanted him to owe us and treat you well.But he’s a snake,turning on you!”
“No need to hold back.Go for it.We don’t need him!”
With Dad’s backing,I was ready to go all out.
