They thought they could get away with it?Not a chance.
I’d already informed the police on the way down.
They’d pay for their crimes.

At the base, flashing police lights cut through the snow.Officers surrounded us,faces stern.
Evelyn and Sophia paled, panic in their eyes.I stood tall, meeting the police’s gaze.
We were separated for questioning.
I recounted everything—how they lied about Michael’s death, how Evelyn pushed him off the ledge—holding back my reborn knowledge.
The officer nodded gravely, promising a thorough investigation.
Hours passed as I sat in the cold interrogation room.

Finally,an officer returned.My suspicions were cleared,for now.
Relief hit.Now it was their turn.
Leaving the room,I saw Evelyn and Sophia in the hall.Their faces twisted at the sight of me.
“Why?”I confronted them.“Why’d you and Michael fake his death?”

“Lies!We didn’t!”Evelyn snapped,voice shaky.
“Right! You killed him and now blame us!”Sophia shouted.
“Me?Laughable,”I said.“Why’d he fake it?What was the plan?”
“I…don’t know what you mean,”Evelyn mumbled,looking away.
“Guilty conscience?”I pressed.“Tell the truth!”
“Stop slandering us!”Sophia stammered,unraveling.
“Slandering?Let me refresh your memory,”I said, pointing at Sophia.“Are you going to deny that you and Michael were having an affair? Or that you sneaked into his hospital room the last time he was admitted?”
“I…I was checking on him!”Sophia flushed,defiant.
“Checking?Or cheating?”I sneered.“You thought I didn’t know you two were hooking up?”
“I played along,stepped back,hoping you’d stop.But faking his death?That’s low.”
“Lies!”Sophia sputtered.
“Lies? Then who gave you that necklace?”I pointed at the diamond chain—my birthday gift to Michael, now hers.
“I…”Sophia went white,speechless.
“Cat got your tongue?”I stepped back.“Anything else?”
“You wretch!You killed him!”Evelyn lunged,but I dodged,slapping her hard.
The sound echoed.
“You hit me?”she gasped, clutching her face.
“Why not?”I said coldly.“Your son’s dead because you kicked him off that ledge. He might have survived if you hadn't done that.”
“Enough!”an officer barked.“Take this argument outside!”
Evelyn and Sophia fell silent, intimidated by the officer.
I turned to leave, but they tried to follow me.
“Stop. You’re needed for more questioning,”the officer said.
They slumped in defeat, finally realizing they had been caught in their own trap.
