Creditors were already calling. No time to rest,I contacted a lawyer.
“I want to separate my assets from Michael’s,”I said firmly.
The lawyer,surprised,explained the process.
“Every cent of mine stays mine. They get nothing,”I insisted.
He nodded,preparing the paperwork.
Weeks of legal battles left me drained, but I had no time for weakness.I fought for my future.
Finally,the lawyer confirmed,“Your assets are separated.If you renounce Michael’s inheritance,his debts won’t affect you.”
“Good,”I exhaled, feeling a heavy weight lift off my shoulders.
My phone rang—a police officer.
“We've completed our investigation into Michael's case. Can you come to the station?”
“I’m on my way.”
At the station, they laid it out.
The reason I blacked out during the climb? Michael had tampered with my oxygen tank, adding a sedative gas.
He staged a rescue, slipped away, and worked with Evelyn to fake his death.
The plan?To burden me with his debts while he and Sophia ran off to start a new life.
But justice caught up.Their scheme backfired.
During the interrogation,Evelyn and Sophia tried to pin the blame on me,claiming I knew he was alive and had orchestrated his death.
But with all the evidence stacked against them, the police saw through their lies.
How could they know I was reborn?
In the end,the two turned on each other.Evelyn blamed Sophia’s plan;Sophia accused Evelyn of greed.
Pathetic.
Both faced charges—manslaughter, fraud, and more. They got years in prison.
No ripple stirred my heart. They deserved it.
As for Michael’s body,I had it taken back on Mount Valor and left there.
I’d vowed he’d stay there forever.
