Chapter 377 GRACE 4

She was only trying to defend herself.
For a few moments, the room was silent as everyone stared quietly at the dead women on the floor.
"Chain her, we cannot keep murderers next to the normal patient." The doctor ordered and Grace panicked.
"No."
"No. Father, she beat me. They're hurting me." Grace tried to speak to the old general who hasn't moved from the position he was placed. Everyday she fears that one day he might stop breathing in this place because of how bad his situation has gotten.
The general hasn't been himself since they arrived here. He doesn't move or give any reaction unlike before when he tried to bully Nari and Kate. In here he only frowns and mop around like a lost fool.
Grace has tried adopting the same character, but there cleaners keep locking her. They beat her every little chance they get, no matter what she does.
She hadn't meant to kill anyone. The woman had been relentless, cruel even. It was self-defense, Grace told herself, but would anyone believe her? The world inside this place was different. Rules didn't apply, and justice was a twisted notion. She had seen it happen to others. Once you crossed a certain line, you were no longer seen as human.
The air grew colder as they descended. She could hear the wails of the forgotten souls, people who had lost their minds in the bowels of the asylum. Grace shuddered. She wasn't like them. She still knew who she was, what she had done. But in this place, sanity was as fragile as glass, and she feared hers would shatter at any moment.
Her thoughts turned to Meredith. If only she could reach her. Meredith would understand, would help her. And Anna... sweet Anna would find a way to get her out of this nightmare. But the walls between her and the outside world seemed impenetrable, and with every step, those hopes felt more distant.
The chains clinked with each movement, a grim reminder of her fate. The doctor's words echoed in her mind:
*"Murderers cannot be kept with normal patients."*
But she wasn't a murderer—was she? The lines had blurred so much, and she wasn't sure anymore.
As they neared the end of the corridor, Grace's breath caught in her throat. She could see the cells now, dank and filthy, filled with those who had lost all sense of themselves. Would this be her fate? Would she, too, become just another forgotten soul, screaming into the void?
Her heart pounded in her chest. She couldn't let that happen.

"Mother, you need to see this." Nari called for her mother as she hurried out of her bedroom. It's been three days since Anna went grocery shopping for them. The food items Anna bought for them was almost finished now and Kate was trying to come up with a new blackmail tactic that could make her neice being more food for them.
She regretted smashing the soup and body products Anna had gotten for her, now she had nothing to use and she couldn't see herself begging her neice from anything. If there's anything Kate never lost, it is her pride.
That character was still very much intact in her. It is so hard to ever lose tbag part of her be a use it is what makes her Kate.
"What is it?" She asked her daughter who did nothing but sit all day with her phone. Kate has tried sending all the threats she could think of to her neice, but Anna has refused to respond to her. She knew she had over stepped her boundaries that day Anna has arrived, but it's not her fault.
"I thought Anna said the Declan's were broke too and has no money. How come they're about to celebrate a birthday bouquet for their daughter?" Nari placed the mail on her mother's legs.
Kate picked up the letter and stared at it. "When did this arrived?" Kate asked furiously. She couldn't believe Anna would be so selfish and greedy to lie to her. She was doing this on purpose. She had purposely refused to help them so that they suffer. She wanted to humiliate them, and she has succeeded.
"An invitation to the birthday party of Elizabeth Declan." Kate read the headings of the invitation letter.
"I told you she was lying mother. Anna is a bloody liar, she only refused to help us because she's jealous and wanted everything for herself. I wouldn't be surprised if she has pulled the house eviction stunt on us." Nari said with a frown as she fell on the couch.
For a moment Kate was silent. She had thought about it, but what gain would Anna gain for pulling such? Anna isn't even that powerful to do such, and besides, she has been the one to cause this doom on herself even if she doesn't want to admit it. All she can do now is blame someone else, and the only available person, will be her neice Anna.
"We have to attend this party." Kate declared.
"Yes, but attending the party means we would need clothes and shoes. We don't have money for it." Nari suggested staring at her mother. She was curious to know how Kate was going to pull this off after everything that had happened.
The entire Summerlane knows the Sui's have lost their wealth and it's clear they have stayed away from them. Nari knows the reason they were invited to the Declan's party is because they're somehow related to Anna who is married to Noah. The Declan's can not disrespect her family no matter what.
"We'll find a way Nari, just watch." Kate said.
