"I want to say a big thank you to everyone for making it here today." Shen started with a clink of his glass to gain everyone's attention.
"My Janjan has always been a happy child with big dreams. She's ambitious and very hardworking, but above all, she is a good woman. I know she would be the best wife for my son in law." Shen said plainly.
Even Janjan knew her father was only just bluffing and would never praise her this much, not to their family or anyone else.
He wants her to be married so bad to get rid of her. She would have left a long time ago, but the man in question is her father.
"I want to plead with my son in law before everyone in here. Please, do take good care of my daughter, because after tomorrow, she'll be yours forever." The women in there couldn't hide their giggle as they clapped after his speech.
Janie blushed as Chalamet held her hands with his. "Of course I will." He laughed.
"Oh, this reminds me so much of when I was still so young and my..." An old woman began her story as everyone listened and smiled. She's Ruth, Shen's mother. She had come all the way to see her granddaughter get married into a good and reputable family.
Everyone wanted to be a part of the Declan's family one way or another and right now, Janjan was a part of the family.
Nari and Ava who had only arrived moments ago were all over Janjan hyping and kissing her all over. Anna felt a little jealous because she knows they don't love her best friend and were only acting that way to get to her. But she kept her feelings to herself.
Janjan should not even mingle with this people, but here she is. Hanging out with the wrong people. She shouldn't care or feel bad about it, but she did. She felt so bad about it.
After dinner with the couple everyone went ahead to give Janie a gift for her upcoming marriage. Noah tossed the little gift box he brought over to Anna. "You don't hate her so much not to give her gift." Anna smiled and walked over to where her friend sat with the others.
Even if she hadn't thought of a gift, Noah had thought about it and made sure to bring something.
He wasn't stupid not to notice how sad Anna looked at the party. Janie is her best friend, and from what he knows, she didn't hurt Anna. But her family did and that is why they cannot be friends. Her family had killed his son and possibly his other children too.
While the guest moved to Janjan, Anna started walking too and stopped when she was standing before her friend. It's been so long theyast spoke so there was a little awkward tension between them.
"Jan, here's my gift for you. Congratulations on your marriage." Anna handed the box of gift to her friend but before Jan could touch it, Ava slapped the box out of Anna's hands.
"Don't you have shame Anna?" She asked already adapting Nari's innocent attitude while spitting venomous words. The same fake identity Nari had used to get into the industry and it is no longer working for her. Girls like this never learn. Anna thought to herself.
"Janie doesn't need your gift Anna." Nari said this time.
"Janie said nothing like that." Anna said staring at her friend expecting her to say something at least, but Janie didn't refuse Nari's claim.
"You have the boldness to come here after everything you did to Janie and her family." Ava continued, her words almost comical.
"Am I not supposed to?" Anna asked.
"Girls stop." Janjan suddenly said staring at Anna. "We cannot just reject gifts from anyone ladies. Every gift counts doesn't it?" She picked the gift Anna has given her from the floor and tossed it among the other gifts there.
"There, are you satisfied now?" Came her reply.
Janie had been meaning to talk to Anna all this while and clear the misunderstanding, but something happened tonight. Something she had to keep to herself.
She couldn't forget the warning her father gave her when he learnt Noah Declan and Anna were in attendance tonight. They all knew the reason the man had arrived.
Infact, they sensed something like this would happen that's the reason they had organized the party in another section of their mansion rather than the usual side where the incident happened.
Janjan had no idea what was going on, but she couldn't tell Anna either. She felt so lost and felt so bad for her friend. This is not the future they had both planned.
She had no idea what Kate, Nari and Ava were planning.
"I don't care what you do with the gift, I'm glad you've received it." Anna smiled and started walking away. One thing about Anna Sui, she will always mask her sorrow with a beautiful smile, no matter how bad she's feeling, you'll never know.
Nari frowned as she saw the girl leave. It annoyed her that their little plans didn't work on Anna she was walking away like nothing had happened.
"Good girl Janjan. If you continue like this, your mother will be safe in no time." Nari said. She had learnt the truth from her mother tonight and she knew she had to protect them. If the truth comes out, both families will definitely go down. Anna cannot remember what had happened, else they're doomed for life.
When Anna reached Noah, she tugged his sleeve and whispered, "I'm not feeling so well sugar, let's leave." Noah frowned, but didn't say a word and just helped her up.
He ignored the gazes of the people on him and just helped his wife up. People are bound to talk, but it's only little their talks and rumors could do. As long as there is no evidence, his wife is fine.
