She darted her gaze around the room, searching for her Aunt Grace. She had asked Grace to come before her, but now she couldn't find her anywhere.
"Is everything okay, Anna?" Evelyn asked, noticing her distress.
Anna nodded. "I'll be back. I need to look for my Aunt," she said, placing her untouched drink on the table next to them. She wasn't even supposed to be close to the Declans tonight to avoid suspicious gazes, especially those of gossip mongers.
People would start thinking things and rumors would spread everywhere with different storyline and think pieces.
As she moved through the crowd, she caught snippets of conversations, laughter, and the clinking of glasses. Anna tried to ignore and avoid everyone as she searched for her aunt.
"Anna Sui." A woman in a red mask smiled as she approached her. Anna stared at the woman and yet couldn't recognize who the person was.
"You can recognize me?" Anna asked and she nodded. "Who couldn't? You're Anna Sui don't forget that." She laughed out this time gulping all of the drink in her hands in one go. She passed the drink on to the next waiter who approached them before giving her full attention to Anna.
"I saw the news today with you and George Borne, I'm really sorry for everything that happened." She started.
"George has always been an asshole to every young girl in the industry, I'm glad someone has put him in his place." The woman said. "It must have been so traumatic for you." She said.
Anna knew all of this tricks. It had happened before Nari tried to destroy her. She had so many industry friends and cheered and wanted to be close to her, but the moment the world ridiculed her, they all ran away. Everyone stayed away from her in other not to tarnish their reputation. Now she's back again, here they are.
"A little bit, but I'm fine now." Anna said with a polite smile.
"I'm sashay by the way a huge fan of yours. I just want to let you know all the girls are proud of you." Anna turned her head to the left and finally spotted Grace near the grand staircase, engaged in conversation with an older gentleman. She sighed in relief as she stared at her Aunt.
Judging from her silly laughs and eyes twinkling, she could already tell the woman was flattered by the man. She didn't want to disturb them, she really hated being the evil one but she had to. Anna made her way towards her Aunt.
"... Please stop, it is common in women Mr Phillip."
"Aunt Grace," Anna called softly, touching her aunt's arm.
Grace turned, a warm smile spreading across her face. "Anna, you made it." She said.
"Uhm, is she your daughter?" The man named Phillip asked and Grace giggled.
"She is, just not biologically."
"I'm here neice. I'm sorry to interrupt but can I steal my aunt away?" Anna asked and the gentleman nodded gently.
"She's all yours." He said with a smile bowing to both women before walking away.
"Isn't he cute Anna?" Grace asked still staring at his departing figure. "Such a gentleman." Grace murmured.
"He is." As both women left the stairs, "Wow, of it isn't the long lost daughter." Kate's voice rang through their ear and both Anna and Grace stated at her. She was holding her daughter Nari, both women dressed in a pretty decent attire.
"You hate the Declan's it's surprising you're here." Grace said. "Does father know of your betrayal?" Grace asked eyeing her elder sister suspiciously. The same thing they had both ridiculed Anna for and sent her out of the family was the same thing they were doing today.
Think of the general Kate recalled the idea Nari had whispered to her and she shivered. The general was going to apologize to the Declan's before all of the people in here. He was going to degrade and embarrass their family and everything they've worked so hard for.
She had to do something about it. She knew she had to. She couldn't stay and watch her family being humiliated. She has done nothing wrong, she did everything right.
"Betrayal?" Kate laughed. "I didn't marry the enemy or love with them even after finding out about everything they did to our family." She said. "We're only here to honour the invitation father gave us. He said it was compulsory, it's a shame he couldn't make it here himself." Kate said.
"Good for you." Grace said and started walking away with Anna without another word to them. She would never have believed she and her sister would one day be arc enemies. She would accept Kate back if only she apologizes for her wrong doing, but even she knew that Kate would never do that.
Her pride will never let her do it. Kate would rather burn in fire than humiliate herself. It's bad she has a daughter that's just like her.
"Did you give the Mark boy what I gave to you?" Kate asked to see her daughter nod. "She didn't drink the first glass he gave her, but surely she'll drink the next one." Nari said.
There are so many rooms tonight, pass one to a maid to give it to Noah, tonight you'll seal your faith in that family. We'll be the next direct in-laws of the Declans." She smiled.
Kate didn't like how good Grace looked, and the expensive jewelry she had on, it could only be Noah that had gotten that for her. She needed it for herself, she was tired of always having her allowance cut by her father.
She could achieve her wish only if Nari the one married to Noah.
