"I swear if I stay in here one more day I might go crazy." She said but Henry shook his head. She was still trying to accept the fact they have gone broke and lost all of their wealth. Veronica has been wealthy since the beginning of her life, knowing they were now of the same status az a peasant angered her.
"We can't leave Nari all alone in this hospital, and remember, Mack has warned us about not letting her know what has happened for the sake of the child." Henry said.
"She's the reason we are here in the first place." Veronica crossed her hands on her chest.
"She's carrying Mack's child. Our grandchild. You use to love her before what changed now?"
"Everything!" She yelled holding the ray before her. Veronica did not mind the people who stared at her as she yelled at her husband. At this point they were in a more drastic situation than.
It's like Henry couldn't understand they were now poor.
"Everything has made me change. Can't you see Henry, don't you have eyes to see? I never planned my old age to be this painful and frustrating." Veronica said misty eyed and Henry hugged his wife. He could understand her pain and fear.
If it was hard for them, it was harder for a woman who has never known suffering all her life. "Everything will be better my dear." He said but the woman beneath him said nothing.
"When?" She asked. "I want it better now." She said.
"Mack has a plan, he's going to meet his boss to get a loan. We'll use that to start up our lives for now and then explain and to something else." Henry said as he wiped his wife's tears.
"How are you sure his boss will give him the money?" Veronica asked. She didn't want to put her hope on them to be disappointed again.
"We have to be positive." Henry said. Almost immediately, Mack walked in.
"Did you speak to him." His father asked and Mack nodded.
"He said his boss is very busy right now. He is celebrating his mother's birthday party and will be back in two days." Mack said with a sigh as he stared at his father.
"That's good. It's only two days and everything will be over." He said.
"The police are looking for us and Nari too. They want us arrested for fraud, we'll need to take her to a different hospital if they still don't discharge her." Mack said.
"Not again." Veronica cried. "How to we get the money for the different hospital?"
"A friend gave me a little money, we'll use that. I've arranged for a car and we'll be leaving soon." He said to see his parents nod in agreement.
"By the way, mother, your friends are here, send them away quickly before we leave." Veronica frowned at her son's words, she knew they were not here to sympathize with her. They were rather here to mock her. Veronica didn't want to keep such company anymore, she didn't want them to add to her stress.
She felt ashamed of her new status. This is not the life she had bargained for.
"Veronica." She heard them call and she turned to look at them. Four women of almost the same age range as her rushed up to her. Mina, Ashley, Betcha and Carol. They have been friends since their high school days and had maintained the friendship till this day.
Veronica knew their friendship was far different from a genuine friendship, she just kept them closer to feel sociable. Being the richest amongst the women made the others jealous of her even if they barely said a thing.
"What are you doing here?" She asked.
"What do you mean what are we doing here Veronica, aren't you happy to see us?" Betcha asked.
"Oh, poor soul. We were all your party when everything happened V, we are so sorry. How is Nari doing?" Carol asked smiling inwardly. Veronica was a proud bitch who thought she had the world at the tips of her fingers. She bragged a lot and looked down on them because her husband was the wealthiest, now look at how the tables have turned.
"Yes, how is she." Mina asked. She could recall this silly woman bragging about Nari being her daughter in law because she was the biggest model in the country.
"My daughter in-law is alright you can leave now." Veronica said sternly.
"She's right Nica, you're now broke and we came to sympathize with you. Don't forget if you need anything, don't hesitate to tell us. We'll be more than glad to help." Mina said.
"You're all good friends and I won't forget your kindness, but I and my family are good. Next time if you want to see me call first before coming." Veronica said.
"So proud even if you've been reduced to dust." Carol rolled her eyes.
"What did you say." V asked.
"What she's saying is that we called Mack before coming." Ashley the new head of the gang said.
"You don't have to be ashamed of what you have become Veronica. We know everything will be fine again." Carol said and Veronica frowned.
"Don't lie to her." Mina chimmed in.
"I already told you I and my family are perfectly fine, you can leave now." She raised her voice at them. They were the last people she wanted to see or talk to today, but who knew they would find her here. She could see their mocking face and it irked her they were still pretending to care.
"Uh, do what you want Veronica. But know that you pushed us away.." Betcha said.
"Yes, and we are here to tell you you're out of the group." Ashley stated.
"What? You have no right to send me out." Veronica panicked.
"Who says we don't have a right. It's obvious you're no longer as rich as before V. Let it sink in, you're now poor and no longer among the elite society." Ashley laughed.
"It's a taboo for us to be seen with a rat. But since we have been really good friends, we will also help you. Here is a check of five million, I'm sure this would go a long way for you and your family." Veronica gritted her teeth at their words.
How dare they give her 5million. This is the height of it, she will not sit here and watch anyone insult her.
"I don't need your money, get out!!" She screamed above her voice not minding the people passing by. All four women walked away after that.
Veronica took in deep breath before heading to where her family resided. She was already feeling dizzy from everything going on. She would get back at those women, they'll pay for every humiliation they've cost to her.
She knew herself and her family will be fine. This is just a phase and they'll go through it.
As she walked inside the room which held Nari, she saw her on the bed crying. Mack and Henry where already with her, trying to console her.
"What did we do wrong Mack, we were only in love." Nari said.
"I... I Think it's Anna. I think she's the one behind this. This is the revenge she talked about Mack." Nari cried out cleaning her tears with the back of her hands. She couldn't believe Anna had defeated her when she least expected, she couldn't have done it alone.
The diamond jewelry she saw her wear that night was no ordinary jewel, whoever she was with now must really be a big shot to help her destroy them. She'll get back at Anna in her own way. She'll make Anna pay for the humiliation she has caused her.
"How do we know that Anna Sui girl is behind all of this? What power do the Sui's have to destroy us?" Veronica asked shaking her head. She couldn't believe what they were saying. The Anna she knew was not this powerful, even the Sui's didn't hold this much power.
"Mack do you remember the Auction?" Nari asked and Mack nodded.
"She wore the same piece of Jewel that stranger had auctioned for half a billion dollars." She said for both Mack and his parents eyes to go wide. It is no wonder she had rejected him multiple times.
She was with someone else.
"Who do you think got it for her?" Veronica asked.
"A wealthy rich man. Probably old or young. She's just messing around to get back at us." Nari rolled her eyes. She still couldn't believe her life was destroyed so fast. People now called her a bad person , an evil person and a golddigger.
All the money she has worked so hard for, for years was now all gone and she's being wanted by the police. Anna has done more than they did to her.
