"How did you find us?" Dapo managed to ask, his voice barely a whisper.
The person on the phone laughed, making a scary noise that caused them to shake. "You could say, I find ways," said the voice. "Eki, Dapo - almost time to finish. Very soon, nowhere left for hiding."
The call ended, and a strange silence came to the room. Eki and Dapo stayed still with fear; they knew they must do something immediately. They could not remain any further within the safe house.
"We have to move," Eki said, her voice trembling slightly. "Now."
Dapo nodded, his face going pale. They quickly and quietly packed their things. It is time to move forward and not waste more minutes. Thorne's men could arrive any moment now.
Quietly leaving the apartment, they look back over their shoulder. It was a place where they hoped to find peace but instead became like a prison for them. They close the door after leaving and its noise echoes through the silent night.
They ran on empty roads, no people in sight, their hearts pounding inside them. They didn't know where they were going but understood that standing still was not a choice either.
They walked into a small, dark path. Breathing heavily, they lean against a cold brick wall to make it easier for them to catch their breath. The town was silent; the only sound was of their hearts pounding in this quietness.
"What now?" Dapo asked, his voice filled with despair.
Eki shook her head, thinking fast. There appeared no other option. Thorne was near and they didn't know where else to move.
When they almost were ready to give up, suddenly, from the darkness appeared a human shape. It was a lady; she had her head covered with a hood and moved closer to them carefully. Her eyes scrutinized every face present.
"I can help you," she said with a serious tone. "Have faith in me."
Eki and Dapo exchanged worried glances. They did not know this woman or what she wanted, but they had no other option. Believing someone who you do not know is dangerous, but seems like this could be their last opportunity.
"Who are you?" Dapo asked, his voice filled with suspicion.
The woman stopped, looking at each of their faces carefully. "I am Anya," she said finally. "I have been watching your story."
Eki and Dapo looked at each other once more. The name seemed familiar, but they simply could not recall where exactly.
"We should leave here," Eki said with a serious tone. "Thorne and his group could be close."
Anya nodded. "I know a safe house," she replied. "We have to move fast."
They walked quietly on empty paths, following Anya. She led them to a plain building that looked normal at the edge of town. "This is a safe house," she said. "It is a place where people come to hide from those who are chasing them."
The safe house is not very big, but it feels very nice. This place is for a short stay, where you can relax and think about what to do next. Eki and Dapo, now staying in the tiny room of the safe house, explained their story to Anya. They shared all the details—from beginning to end about this frightening experience they had faced.
Anyone can understand the language, but not all people speak it very well. At that moment, Anya stayed silent for a while as she thought about the message in her mind. Her expression was very serious. After they finished reading, Anya nodded slowly and said, "I already thought this would happen." "Thorne, he is a very bad man. If we do not act quickly, he never gives up."
"What do you know about him?" Dapo asked, his voice filled with hope.
Anya's eyes had special strength, and she took a moment before saying, "More than you imagine. I have observed him for many years."
Eki and Dapo glanced at one another with hopeful eyes. It seemed like they might have encountered someone who could help them in defeating Thorne.
"We must find out who he is," Eki said with strong determination in her voice. "We can't allow him to keep going like this without anyone noticing."
Anya gave a small nod. "We should be careful," she said. "Thorne is powerful and has important friends."
Days after were for making plans. They know they have a tough opponent, but their will to fight back also becomes stronger now. They must find ways to clear themselves from blame, recover what was stolen, and catch Thorne so the authorities can handle him.
While they were discussing what to do next, there was a knock on the door. Eki and Dapo exchanged anxious glances with each other. Who might it be?
Eki took a deep breath and turned the doorknob. There was the man she had not seen before, very tall with cold eyes looking around like he was judging everything.
"Eki, Dapo," he says gently but his voice sounds dangerous. "We have been searching for you."
Eki and Dapo look at each other with fear in their eyes. The person standing at the door is someone they do not know but also looks very scary. They do not know who he is or understand what he wants, but it might be news they will not like.
"Who are you?" Eki managed to say, her voice trembling slightly.
The man smiled widely, showing his sharp teeth. "How do you say this? I know your friend," he said.
Without waiting for their answer, the man quickly walked by them and entered the apartment. He had a self-assured manner as he carefully observed everything around him. Eki and Dapo made eye contact with fear. They were trapped.
The person changed direction and started coming closer to them, his face looking cold and deep in thought. "You have caused many problems," he said with a quiet voice that felt very threatening. "Now is when you pay."
With those chilling words, he reached into his coat and pulled out
have a gun. Eki and Dapo stopped moving and their thinking got faster. They had no other way left for them.
