Then came the call. A voice, low and urgent, introduced herself as Olajumoke. The same Olajumoke who had revealed to everyone the corruption inside the city council. Now she is facing legal troubles, and her life is becoming very difficult.
"I understand what you feel," her voice had a little tremble, "it is that constant fear, always feeling like something is chasing. I can help you, but you need to help me too."
Eki and Dapo exchanged a cautious glance. Olajumoke had information that was clear. But could they trust her? Her motives were shrouded in mystery.
'What do you want?" Dapo asked, his voice guarded.
'Information," Olajumoke replied. 'Information about the secret society. "In return, I will give you evidence that can destroy the Olumide family."
The offer was very attractive, like a light in a dark place. But it had a big risk too, a huge one. Olajumoke could be playing them, using them to escape her troubles.
Days all started to look alike, filled with meetings and secret talks. Olajumoke moved like a shadow, appearing and disappearing without anybody realizing it. Eki and Dapo found themselves stuck in a complicated web of lies, with their trust in each other being the only thing they could rely on during hard times.
Eki found herself questioning everything. Could they trust Olajumoke? Was she someone who got stuck in a bad place, or was she planning things herself too? And what if they were heading straight into huge trouble waiting for them?
The choice felt very difficult. On one hand, they could tell the truth and remove a powerful but dishonest authority. On the other, they risked their lives, their freedom, their relationship.
One night, while they sat in their apartment with city lights making a warm glow in the darkness, Eki began to talk. "I don't trust her, Dapo," she said with a little tremor in her voice.
Dapo took her hand. 'Neither do I. But we need the information she has."
They were in a tough spot, feeling mixed up about doing what was right and being afraid of things they didn't understand. It was difficult for them to tell what is good from what is bad, and slowly they started to lose sight of what truly matters.
As days passed, tension became more. The threat from the secret group grew larger, and there was less time remaining for them. Olajumoke had provided them with a series of puzzling messages, each one bringing them closer to discovering the truth.
But with every new detail, their fear kept growing. They were in a dangerous situation, and the results could be more severe than they ever imagined before.
One night, when they were very absorbed in reading the newest message from Olajumoke, a sudden knock on the door made them jump. They exchanged worried glances with each other. Who could it be at this hour?
With a mix of fear and excitement, Eki opened the door. On the doorstep was a man, his face hiding in shadows. He handed her an envelope and disappeared into the night.
Their hearts pounding, Eki and Dapo opened the envelope. Inside was a single photograph. It was a picture of them, taken from a distance, being followed.
The realization hit them like a cold shower. They were being watched. And the one they trusted might be the one watching them.
The picture was clear evidence of their biggest fears. Someone had eyes on them, observing every move they made. The question now was, who was behind it? Kunle? The secret society? Or someone else entirely?
Fear and determination warred within them. They couldn't let this deter them. The stakes were too high. The city, perhaps the world, depended on them.
They spend the next few days very carefully. Every shadow seems like a hiding threat, every noise perhaps a danger. Paranoia crept in, eroding their trust in everyone, even each other.
One evening, as they discussed what to do next, suddenly there was a knock on the door that surprised them. Eki stopped for a moment before he opened it. When she opened the door, she saw a young woman standing there with a scared look in her eyes.
"I need to talk to you," she whispered, her voice trembling.
The woman said her name was Maya, and before she had worked for the Olumide family. Some years ago, a small scandal happened to her that made her reputation go down and forced her to live on society's edge.
Maya said she discovered a dark secret, something that could destroy the entire empire. She tried to share the truth but faced barriers everywhere she went.
Eki and Dapo listened very carefully, their hearts beating fast because they were so excited. This moment could be their big chance, the answer to solving the mystery. But they were cautious. They had been burned before.
"Why are you coming to us?" Dapo asked, his voice filled with scepticism.
Maya hesitated. "I don't know who else to trust. You're fighting for the truth, just like I am."
Her honesty looked real, but they decided not to risk it. They planned to see her once more, however with great care.
As they saw Maya go away, a mix of hope and fear came up. They were nearer than ever to finding the truth, but the danger was growing very fast.
They always understand people looking at them, and every move is watched. The secret group coming closer now must act faster than others.
The road in front had many dangers, but Eki and Dapo were full of willpower. Together on this trip, they got ready to handle any troubles that came along their way.
The city lights always looked down on them, making fun of their weakness and showing the secret darkness underneath. But they never gave up. They were fighters and survivors, and they would emerge from this ordeal stronger than ever.
