Chapter 25

I couldn't help laughing at Jack's smug face and Joel's barely contained rage, his eyes red with fury as he shoved people aside.

Jack suddenly changed tactics.

"Joel, haven't you figured it out yet?

How's that game working for you—the one where you torture your ex, then try to win her back?"

Joel froze, his body rigid, looking like he might crumple to the ground.

"You! Stealing my girlfriend right in front of me. Despicable."

I rolled my eyes.

Jack flashed a wolfish grin and leaned against me, laughing uncontrollably.

I patted his arm, sensing trouble brewing.

Sure enough.

"Joel, remember all those disgusting things you said?

Doesn't matter now. I'm the loyal hound at her feet. Ripping apart her enemies is my sacred duty!"

As he spoke, Jack dropped to one knee before me and reverently kissed my hand.

I turned away, my toes curling in embarrassment.

My parents stood nearby, eyes wide, as if witnessing an alien ritual.

After a moment, I heard them whispering.

"Is this how young people date these days?"

"Well, Jack is certainly better than that jerk. As long as he treats our daughter right, that's what matters."
