Chapter 13

196words
Seventh day. The last day of our temporary Claim.

Kael walked me back to my dorm.

"Tomorrow the Claim ends." He stared straight ahead, not meeting my eyes.

"Yeah." I nodded. "Thanks for taking care of me this week."

"'Thanks' again." Kael sounded annoyed, his fingers drumming against his thigh. "Elara, can't you say something else?"

"Like what?"

"Like..." He turned to face me, his wolf eyes catching the streetlights. "Like you'll miss this?"

I froze.

My heart suddenly racing out of control.

"I..."

"Forget it." Kael cut me off. "Pretend I didn't say anything."

He turned to leave.

Driven by some inexplicable impulse, I grabbed his arm.

"Wait."

Kael stopped. He didn't turn around, but I felt his Alpha aura ripple with tension.

"I..." I took a deep breath. "Actually, I will miss it. A lot."

Kael whipped around, his eyes bright with hope:

"So?"

"So... maybe we could extend it?"

"How long?" His voice barely contained his eagerness.

"A month?"

"Too short."

"Six months?"

"Still not enough."

"Then you tell me what you want!"

Kael smiled, reaching out to gently pinch my cheek:

"Permanent Claim. How does that sound?"

"Make you my true Mate."
