Chapter 25: Moon Shadow Valley

All Wolf Clan members participating in the trial gathered at the entrance to the valley. Lyra and Rayne stood at the front of the group; as the Alpha and Luna of the Greyson Family, they would be the first to undergo the Laurel's test.
"Remember the plan," Rayne whispered to Lyra, "We must find the third path."
Lyra nodded, her fingers unconsciously touching the Moon Laurel Tears pendant at her neck. She could feel the presence of the Dark Moon Stone, that dark energy flickering in the canyon, attempting to interfere with her thoughts.
Karen and Eileen stood not far away, hiding their conspiracy beneath fake smiles of blessing. Lyra noticed Karen holding a small black box in her hand, which must be the container holding the Dark Moon Stone.
"The trial is about to begin!" the Elder announced from above, "The Moon Laurel will test the soul compatibility of each pair. Only true soul mates can receive the blessing of the Moon Laurel."
As the Elder's words fell, the silver mist in the canyon grew thicker, forming a distinct path pointing toward the depths of the canyon.
"First pair, Alpha Rayne from the Greyson Family and Luna Lyra, please begin your trial."
Lyra took a deep breath, interlaced her fingers with Rayne's, and together they stepped onto the silver path. After just a few steps, she felt dizzy as the power of the Dark Moon Stone began to take effect.
"Hold on," Rayne squeezed her hand. "Don't let it affect you."
Lyra nodded, focusing her mind to resist the disorienting sensation. As they ventured deeper into the canyon, their surroundings began to blur, as if they had entered another dimension.
Suddenly, Lyra saw that the path forked. The main road continued forward, another hidden trail extended to the right, and a third, almost invisible path flickered on the left, visible only as a faint glow of Silver Fern when the moonlight shone directly upon it.
"The third path," Lyra whispered, pointing toward the barely visible trail.
Rayne nodded, but just as they were about to turn left, a powerful force suddenly struck, pulling their thoughts in different directions.
"Dark Moon Stone!" Lyra exclaimed, feeling a sharp pain in her head, "Karen must have activated its full power!"
Rayne's expression became pained, but he still held Lyra's hand tightly: "Don't let go...no matter what happens...don't let go..."
The mist in the canyon suddenly turned purple-black, as the Dark Moon Stone's power distorted the Moon Laurel's energy. Lyra felt her consciousness beginning to blur, fragments of memories flashing before her eyes, reality and illusion becoming indistinguishable.
At this critical moment, the Moon Laurel Tears pendant suddenly emitted a dazzling silver light, forming a protective barrier that temporarily held back the Dark Moon Stone's corrosion.
"Now!" Rayne pulled Lyra toward the almost invisible path.
