Chapter 13

Right then, Gwyneth got a call from Kieran.
His cold voice came through, "They just got here. Bet they're here for you."
Gwyneth looked cold and detached. "Asher sure knows how to time things. He knew exactly when I'd return.

Kieran was quiet for a moment before saying, "If you'd rather not deal with them, I'll send someone to make them leave."
His steady, soothing voice made her feel safe.
After a pause, he added, "They're probably here to convince you."
Gwyneth thought it over for a second, then shook her head. Asher might not have come from a rich family, but his parents, Harvey Crowe and Rosalie Ridley, had been good to her over the years.
They'd always send her fresh produce from their farm, growing whatever she loved to eat. So even though Gwyneth had lawyers prepping for the divorce, she still wanted to keep things respectful with them.
"Let them in. I'll talk to them," Gwyneth said.

After parking the car, she sat for about ten minutes before finally heading into the living room.
Harvey and Rosalie jumped up excitedly when they saw her. As Kieran predicted, they came by to talk her into reconciling with Asher.
They stressed that Gwyneth and Asher had been in love for 12 years and knew each other inside and out. Finding someone new didn't promise they'd have good character.
Plus, Asher had cut ties with Liana, and Gwyneth still held 80% of his company shares. He'd never failed to provide for her over the years.

Harvey and Rosalie looked at Gwyneth, regret heavy in their eyes.
They knew that someone like Gwyneth was a rare find for Asher, especially considering their family situation. They promised they'd watch Asher closely if she got back together with him.
Once they were done talking, Gwyneth shook her head and pulled out the divorce agreement. "Mr. and Mrs. Crowe, think about it from my point of view. If I were Asher, would you want your daughter to get back with a guy who cheated on her for nine years?"
She'd treated Harvey and Rosalie well over the years. She was always the one who arranged their hospital visits. Whenever she came across good supplements, she'd pick them up and send them over.
Harvey and Rosalie shared a look and sighed, feeling defeated.
Asher was at the entrance of the villa. When Harvey and Rosalie finally came out, he rushed over. "So, Mom, Dad, did she agree?"
Rosalie handed him the divorce agreement.
Asher's eyes lost their spark as he muttered, "Gwyneth is seriously set on this divorce, huh?"
Harvey frowned and let out a heavy sigh. "Ash, you've really disappointed Wyn. She's a great person. Maybe it's time you sign the divorce papers."
Asher hung his head in silence.
After sending Harvey and Rosalie off, Gwyneth got a call from Norbert. "Ms. Payne, we've filed the divorce suit. We're just waiting for the court date."
"Alright."
Since Gwyneth had asked Rosalie to bring the divorce agreement to Asher, she hadn't seen him in days. She finally enjoyed a few days of peace.

One evening after work, Gwyneth and Kieran stopped by a diner and unexpectedly bumped into Asher and Liana. Liana was yanking on Asher's shirt in public, clearly arguing over something.
Suddenly, Liana noticed Gwyneth sitting by the window. She marched up, grabbed a hot bowl of clam chowder, and dumped it all over Gwyneth.
"Gwyneth, why are you still breathing? You should've died during the abortion!"
Kieran quickly reached out and pulled Gwyneth into his arms.
When her attempt failed, Liana tried to run, but she slipped and crashed to the ground. The hot clam chowder splashed over her, and she yelped in pain.
Kieran checked Gwyneth over to make sure she was okay. Then, he shot a cold glance at Liana sprawled on the ground.
"Ms. Quayle, if I remember correctly, you've harmed Gwyneth several times. I don't get how a mistress like you can hold so much hatred for someone's wife. Now that things have gone this far, I'm helping Gwyneth get justice for everything you've put her through."
