Chapter 30

It was my mother's death anniversary again.
James and I flew to the capital to visit her grave.
She was smiling at me in the photo, just like she did when she was alive.

I placed the flowers on her grave and told her about everything that had happened in the past few months.
It was after sunset that I reluctantly left.
Before I left, I met Brad again at the bottom of the hill.
He looked exhausted and a little disheveled.
I heard that the Coleman family had utterly given up on him.
After all, he was only a trust-fund kid who was addicted to drinking and gambling. He was of no use to his family at all.

"Leah." He stared at me and took a few steps forward. Suddenly, he thought of something and stopped in his tracks.
"May I help you, Mr. Coleman?" I looked at him indifferently, but I was sighing deep down.
I was reminded of how spirited he was and of the luxurious life he had led.
He was always surrounded by people who fawned over him.

At that moment, however, he was all alone. All of his so-called friends had long abandoned him.
However, he had nobody but himself to blame for how things turned out for him. He had brought it onto himself.
Brad stared at me in a daze for a long time before he looked at James.
James stood by my side, wrapping his arm tightly around my waist. He was tall and extraordinarily handsome.
A miserable look gradually appeared on Brad's face. "Leah, may I talk to you in private? We don't have to go to another place if Mr. Blackwell can allow us some privacy."
"He's my husband. There's no conversation of mine that he can't listen to." I held James' hand tightly. "Speak here if you have something to say."
Brad smiled miserably. "Leah, I thought you'd come back if I apologized and promised to make up for my past mistakes. I had always thought that you'd be the one to stay by my side forever."
The guilty, regretful, and apologetic look on his face was sincere. However, it was all too late. It did not mean anything anymore.
"Brad, nobody would wait for you in the same spot forever. Just move forward and don't look back." I did not stay after saying that; I pulled James away.
After we walked off, James suddenly lamented, "My wife is still as charming as ever."
"Of course." I flicked my hair and winked at him. "I've always been charming."
I stopped in my tracks and tiptoed to kiss him. Then, with a big smile, I said, "How else would you be so smitten with me that you wouldn't marry anyone but me?"
James smiled and admitted it, saying, "That's true. I was so smitten by you that I wouldn't marry anyone but you. I feel like I'm still under a spell right now."
I could not help but chuckle. I threw myself into his arms and asked him to hug me tightly.
The sun was just right. There was a breeze in the air.
'Mom, do you see me? I'm very, very happy right now.'
