Chapter 10

My body wanted to accept the ring immediately, but my mind and heart kept me grounded. Didn't Stanley say he’d been involved with that girl I saw for over ten years?
If I got together with him now, wouldn’t that make me the third party in their relationship? How would I be any different from the deranged Dona?
My reason and morals wouldn’t allow me to do that.

“Stanley, I’m sorry. I can’t accept this.”
“That place belongs to the girl you’ve had feelings for all these years. You two are meant to be together.”
“And I’m just a divorced woman in my thirties. We’re not a good match.”
But to my surprise, Stanley just smiled.
“So, you saw me with Crystal that day?”
He suddenly pulled me into his arms.

“Missy, you misunderstood. That day, I was telling Crystal to stop bothering me.”
“Our families have known each other forever. We grew up together, and our parents always hoped we’d end up together.”
“When I came back from studying abroad, my parents wanted me to marry Crystal. When I refused, they cut me off financially and froze my accounts.”
“Left with no choice, I started working at one of the family’s repair shops. I majored in intelligent vehicle systems, so it wasn’t completely unrelated—I figured it would give me some hands-on experience.”

“I never expected to meet you, and after that, I couldn’t get you out of my mind.”
Stanley held me even tighter.
“The day you came to find me, I was actually making things clear with Crystal. I told her I was already in love with someone else and that I’d made my choice.”
“So, does that mean you’re single and ready to mingle now?”
“What do you think?”
Unable to hold back, Stanley pushed me onto the couch, his hands wandering eagerly.
I couldn’t resist his urgency, and I gave in to him, over and over again.
After a night of passion, I leaned back, my aching body protesting, and asked Stanley, a bit worried, “I’m just a divorced woman. Are you sure your parents will accept me?”
Stanley held my hand firmly, giving me strength.
“Don’t worry. I’ve chosen you, and I’m capable of protecting you. I won’t let anyone mistreat you.”
The next day, Stanley took me to meet his parents.
To my surprise, his mother and father were both very open-minded.
After dinner, his mother pulled me into her room and placed a pair of exquisite ruby earrings on my ears.
“Adria, Stanley has always been strong-willed and independent. None of us could ever control him. From now on, I’m counting on you to keep him in line.”
She patted my hand with a relieved smile, as if she’d finally passed on a troublesome burden.
Stanley was full of energy and desire, and just one month after our wedding, I discovered I was pregnant.
Stanley placed his hand on my belly, feeling the baby’s movements.
“Hey there, little one. Isn’t your dad amazing for bringing you to your mom so quickly?”
I laughed and playfully hit Stanley’s solid chest.
“You’re about to be a father, and you still don’t know how to behave!”
Stanley brought my hand to his lips and kissed my palm gently.
“Honey, now that you’ve got me, you’re stuck with me for life.”
