Chapter 9

Now, Dona has lost the ability to have children, and her boyfriend is gone. Everywhere she goes, people whisper and point at her.
The stress and humiliation took a toll on her mind. Unable to take care of herself, her mother had to come all the way from their hometown to bring her back home to recover.
I guess this is what they mean when they say you reap what you sow.

After I caught Stanley with that woman, I never went back to his repair shop.
But whenever I was lying in bed feeling lonely or using a little toy to keep myself company, it was always Stanley’s rugged, handsome face I imagined.
Three months later.
I had just returned from grocery shopping and stepped into the elevator when a man wearing a baseball cap and a black mask grabbed me, covering my mouth and nose with his hand.
As the elevator doors closed, a familiar scent filled the air.
I turned to look—and it was Stanley!
“You—you’re supposed to be working at the shop. What are you doing here?”
“Missy, today I’m not fixing cars. I’m here to fix you.”
For some reason, hearing Stanley’s deep voice made my legs feel weak.
He wasn’t wearing his usual greasy work clothes but a suit that looked like a knockoff of a high-end designer brand. There was even a counterfeit Patek Philippe watch on his wrist.
I thought to myself, we haven’t seen each other in a while, but did he really need to pretend this much?
I reached out to remove his Prada sunglasses and said, “Stan, you should stay grounded.”
“There’s nothing wrong with being a mechanic. It’s honest work, and you’re making money with your own skills. But wearing fake luxury brands just doesn’t suit you...”
Before I could finish my lecture, he silenced me with a kiss.
“Why don’t you take a closer look and see if I’m really wearing fake stuff?”
I could barely catch my breath from his kiss.
When the elevator doors opened, Stanley rushed into my apartment ahead of me.
Under the light, I took a closer look at the designer logos on his clothes and compared them to the ones I’d seen online. They actually looked real, not fake...
What was going on?
Did Stanley hit the jackpot?
I had a million questions running through my mind.
After taking a look around my apartment, Stanley finally spoke up:
“Adria, I heard your ex-husband is in prison?”
...
Who visits someone’s home and immediately brings up their painful past?
“Yes, he is. Why? Did you come here to make fun of me for being unlucky in love?”
“If so, you can leave.”
I assumed Stanley had dressed up just to rub salt in my wounds.
But to my surprise, he looked genuinely hurt.
“Missy, I’m not here to mock you. I’m here to ask you to be with me.”
“You once said you’d be with me if I had a million dollars.”
“I don’t have that much yet, but I’m working on it.”
“The most important thing is, there’s a spot in my life, and if you let this opportunity pass, you might not get another chance…”
Then, Stanley handed me a document.
That’s when I realized—Stanley was actually the heir to the Lewis Corporation!
---
The Lewis Corporation is a publicly traded family business with investments in real estate, hospitality, automotive, technology, and over a dozen other industries.
And now, the heir to the Lewis Corporation, Stanley, was standing in my living room, confessing his feelings to me!
“Missy, I’m offering you the position of fiancée to the heir of the Lewis Corporation. Would you be interested?”
Suddenly, Stanley got down on one knee and presented me with a dazzling ring that was even bigger than a pigeon egg.
