Tina nodded repeatedly beside him. "Yes, I have to agree. As a doctor, babies who weigh two pounds never really survive, and it costs dozens of thousands. She's not worth it!"
Zach's parents had calmed down just then, and were shrugging awkwardly too. "We're not that rich… What if we spend the money, and she doesn't survive?"
They were all clearly voting to give up, with Zach stopping my parents before they could speak. "Right now, the priority is to save Liv. Or do you think we should give up on her for a premature baby?"
"No! We will save both of them," my mom insisted, not succumbing to their brainwashing. "It's worth it no matter how much it would cost!"
The nurse nodded. "Don't worry, we will do our best."
However, neither my daughter nor myself surviving would bode well for Tina or Zach.
As such, Tina promptly asked, "Can you let him in? Having her husband there might help encourage her."
Zach promptly caught on and nodded, "Yes, let me inside… I can't live without her!"
Before the nurse could respond, the door opened again, and a doctor came running out with a critical condition notice. "Is the mother's family here? Your son is dying!"
The air down the hallway seemed to turn stale in an instant, with Tina being the first to blurt, "W-What are you talking about? Whose son? No… That's impossible! The son is right here!"
The doctor rolled his eyes at her and pointed at the notice. "What are you talking about? The daughter's right there, but the son's still in an incubator. Sign the notice and send him to pediatrics!"
Hearing that, my mom unwrapped the swaddle and exclaimed in delight, "Oh, we really made a mistake! This is my granddaughter, not my grandson."
One could falsify almost everything, but not that which dangled.
And after showing the proof to everyone, my mom held on to my daughter and told Zach, "Like you said, the baby's only two pounds, and there's no hope. Let's just give up."
"No!" Tina shrieked, her frenzied eyes bulging and almost popping out of their sockets. "We must save my son, no matter how much it costs! Call in your experts right now!"
"Is there a problem here? He's not your son." The nurse frowned at her, puzzled as she turned to Zach again. "Sir? Can I have your decision please?"
"No!!!" Tina kept hollering. "That's my son! Save him, or I'll kill you! Every last one of you!!!"
