The next day.
Sophia slowly opened her eyes, feeling utterly drained.
Fragments of the previous night flashed in her mind.
She suddenly felt guilty toward Liam, yet a blush warmed her cheeks—it had been thrilling.
Jacob woke too, pulling Sophia into his arms. "Sophia…"
"Don't call me that! It's 'Ms. Sophia'!"
Sophia pushed Jacob away, then warned, "Last night was just fulfilling your wish. Don't you dare breathe a word."
"Liam must never find out!"
Hearing this, Jacob's face stiffened. A flicker of resentment crossed his eyes before he pulled Sophia back into his arms.
His hands wandered recklessly over her skin.
"Are you insane?"
Sophia glared.
"Liam will never know. Ms. Sophia, please," Jacob begged, kissing her again.
Once a line is crossed.
It keeps moving.
So, Sophia gave in once more.
After all, Liam didn't know. Rewarding Jacob again was fine—he was her loyal butler, her right hand.
As they lost themselves, the bedside phone buzzed, but neither paid attention.
Until after taking a bath, Sophia finally checked her phone. Hundreds of missed calls, all from her father, Robert Greene.
A bad feeling settled in her stomach. She quickly called back.
Robert's roar erupted before she could speak. "Where have you been? Do you have any idea what's happening?"
"Liam gave the order. All our partners pulled out! And a ton of scandals just hit the news!"
"The whole company's in chaos! The staff is fleeing! Our IPO plans are ruined!"
What?
Sophia froze, disbelief washing over her. "Liam could do all that?"
"I was blind, but you—his girlfriend—how could you not see it? He's the sole heir of the Manhattan Murphys!"
Robert's yell grew even louder, regret over his earlier outburst at the hotel clear in his voice.
"What?"
Sophia's eyes widened, speechless.
"Find Liam. Now!"
"Make things right, or our family is finished!"
Robert hung up in a rage.
Sophia didn't waste a second, scrambling out of bed, but Jacob pulled her back.
"Get off me!" she snapped.
He just held on tighter, a smug, knowing smile playing on his lips. "You know him—he's totally wrapped around your finger."
"Even if you were pregnant with my child, he'd still marry you."
"Just crook your finger, and he'll come running."
