From where Dad was, he couldn't see the wound clearly yet. He even seemed touched by Zane's visit.
“Any news on Olivia's case?”
Zane placed a care package on the table, his tone full of fake concern.

Dad clenched his fists, voice trembling with emotion. “They found the killer's DNA in Olivia's mouth. I'll get justice for her soon!”
Zane just went “Oh,” then turned slightly and started opening the bag he brought.
From his angle, Dad couldn't see what was inside.
But I saw it clearly—it was the same axe he used to dismember me.
I screamed, trying to warn Dad to run.
But no one could hear me.

Luckily, Dad finally noticed the wound on Zane's neck. His cop instincts kicked in immediately.
“That injury on your neck… What happened?”
Zane touched it casually and smirked. “Just a little kitten bite.”
But this time, Dad didn't buy it. He kept talking calmly while slowly backing away.

“Really? We have some good scar ointment here. Let me get it for you.”
Zane looked up, eyes cold. “No need. After all… you'll both be dead soon.”
Before he finished speaking, he suddenly pulled out the axe and swung it at Dad's neck.
Dad's eyes widened in shock before he collapsed.
He was knocked out.
Zane didn't plan to kill him quickly—just used the back of the axe to stun him.
He tied Dad up, then casually walked to the bedroom, where he dragged Mom out by her hair while she was having a nightmare.
Her piercing screams were just like mine back in that basement.
I trembled uncontrollably, wanting to save them but feeling completely powerless.
Dad woke up from the screams, struggling to open his eyes.
“Zane! What are you doing?!”
He took in the scene—horrified and furious.
Zane, who had just gagged Mom, turned around with the familiar devilish look on his face.
“Why don't you ask what I've already done?”
He laughed wildly and waved my phone in front of them.
Dad was confused but seemed to guess something.
“Is that… Olivia's phone?”
Zane clicked his tongue. “You didn't even recognize her body, but you know her phone?”
Dad's lips quivered as he roared, “Why did you do this to her?! She trusted you like family! How could you kill her so brutally? Why?!”
Zane shook his head, almost pityingly. “I didn't kill her. You did.”
“We played a game. If you had replied to her text and come save her, I would've let her live. But what did you say again?”
Dad froze, clearly remembering his reply: “Just die already.”
Zane seemed amused now. “You know, if you had recognized her from the limbs, or even just noticed she was missing, you could've saved her.”
“Honestly, I didn't even really want to kill her. She was so pitiful… I almost felt sorry for her.”
“But you? You were even crueler than me. You didn't give her a single chance.”
Dad seemed to break completely, crumbling inward. “Just kill me. I killed her. Do it…”
Zane's eyes glowed with malice. “When I first cut off her legs, she cried and said, ‘My mom and dad will save me.' But she waited until death… and you never came.”
“Even while dying, she tried to avenge her brother. With no hands or feet, she still almost killed me. And you? What did you do?”
Zane laughed mockingly.
Dad jerked his head up. “What did you say? Avenge her brother?”
Zane slapped his forehead like he'd forgotten. “Oh right, I didn't tell you—your son's death? That was me too. I tampered with the brakes.”
“I thought, a cop and a forensic examiner? You'd suspect something. I was ready to be caught.”
“But you hated Olivia so much, you pinned it all on her without a second thought. She was so simple-minded… She took the blame for me perfectly.”
Dad stared at Zane's smug face, struggling like a madman against his ropes.
He fought on the ground, eyes full of pure hatred.
“Why? Why would you do this to us?! You monster!”
