Logan rushed forward. "Chloe! Are you okay?"
Chloe lowered her head, took a deep breath, and smiled weakly. "It's okay. Can you call an ambulance? I think... I'm miscarrying."
Logan slapped me across the face without asking for an explanation. "What did you do?"
I looked up in a daze. "I didn't do anything! It wasn't me! She fell by herself!"
"Sophia, if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, could you have come up with a more pathetic lie?"
Logan didn't believe me.
He never believed me.
Logan went to the restroom and came back looking upset.
Chloe had just finished showing off the group photo to me, quickly put away her phone, and smiled as she leaned towards him. "What's wrong? Did you have another fight with Sophia? She's just like that, always so serious. Don't take it to heart."
He moved away, his expression complex.
"It's not about Sophia. Why bring her up?"
Chloe awkwardly pulled her hand back. "No, it's just... you two fought so often before, I just thought..."
He suddenly spoke. "Chloe, there's something I've been meaning to ask you for a long time. Why did you leave without saying goodbye back then?"
Chloe's body tensed for a moment. The smile on her face became stiff. "I told you already. My family went bankrupt, owed a huge debt. I couldn't drag you down."
He took out his phone. There was a photo on it.
It was a photo of a tacky, middle-aged man dripping with gold, and sitting on his lap was none other than Chloe.
Her face turned deathly pale.
"Where did you get this? Who sent it to you?"
Chloe panicked, trying to snatch the phone.
Logan frowned, avoiding her grasp, and silently sat down opposite her.
She seemed to realize the seriousness of the situation, lowered her head, and started crying. "Logan, I had no other choice back then. If I didn't be with him, I was finished."
Logan looked annoyed, called the waiter for the bill. As he was leaving, he seemed to remember something. He turned and asked, "Was the child his?"
Chloe trembled but didn't answer.
Whether it was or wasn't, it would expose her lie.
And in Logan's eyes, her silence was an admission.
A look of anger at being deceived appeared on his face.
"You said back then it was your ex-boyfriend's child. He broke up with you because you lost it. That's why I decided to take you on a trip to relax, and fulfill that silly promise we made as kids."
Chloe bit her lower lip. "Logan, I really had my reasons."
Logan only replied coldly, "Let's both just cool off for now."
On the way home, he looked at the city lights at night, suddenly took out his phone and texted me: "Are you home? What do you want for dinner? I'll pass by the grocery store on my way back."
Of course, he got no response.
Because I was already dead.
After waiting a long time with no reply, Logan's frown deepened.
Then, a call came from an unknown number.
"Hello, is this Logan Thorne? I'm Ms. Sophia Thorne's attorney. As she requested, the divorce papers have been sent to your home. If there are no issues, please sign them so we can proceed."
Logan was stunned. "She wants a divorce?"
Logan started frantically calling me and everyone around me.
Emma hung up three times before finally answering. "Are you insane, Logan? Calling non-stop in the middle of the night!"
