One morning, entering my office, I found an unexpected visitor.
Evelyn lounged on my sofa. Seeing me, she stood with that superior air:
“Brought you a contract—$80 million.”

She tossed it onto my desk.
“You kill yourself for $8 million a month. You might not care about shame, but I do.”
Now, faced with her insults, I remained calm.
“Evelyn, thanks, but I don't handle sales. I'm in design. I can introduce you to our sales director.”
Evelyn paused, then lectured:
“Handing clients to your boss is how you get ahead.”

I looked at her steadily. She'd always dictated my life, never asking what I liked or excelled at.
Because she gave generously, I should accept gratefully.
She—never really knew me.
I walked to the door and opened it.

“Evelyn, if you're here for business, sales is down the hall. Mr. Wang will assist you.”
Evelyn kicked the couch, glowering.
“Liam, don't test me. I brought you a deal, came myself. What more do you want?”
I met her gaze sternly.
“Evelyn, need reminding? We're over. Your future partners don't concern me. Please don't bother me again.”
Evelyn laughed sharply, stepping closer to grab my arm.
“Still jealous, huh? Look at you.”
“Fine, I'll ditch them. Just you, okay?”
I shook her off. “Evelyn, who you see is none of my business.”
“I admit, I loved you once—would've died for you. But not anymore. Never again.”
