The next day when I woke up, Chloe stared at me for a long time.
I was surprised,"Is there something wrong with my face?"
Chloe quickly shook her head,"No, everything is normal. More normal than ever. You've moved on."
I smiled self-deprecatingly. Yes, I had moved on.
Sometimes I'm really grateful for that embarrassing incident after getting drunk last time. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known how much he actually hated me.
Once I removed the rose-colored glasses for him, I could quickly become free and easy.
"Of course I've moved on. But I can't afford to tick him off right now.I 'll continue to invite Ethan out in a few days. I 've got to secure his investment for my uncle's business. There are only 14 days left."
Just thinking about having to play nice with Ethan again made me laugh.
But I didn't have a choice. I had to play the fool if I wanted to use his resources.
Three days later, I invited Ethan to meet.
"Lily, are you playing hard-to-get by inviting me?"
Ethan came straight to the point. When I looked at him, I noticed a hint of fatigue in his eyes.
I remained calm,"Not at all."
He simply didn't appeal to me anymore, and I wasn't going to waste my energy on him.
"Not in the slightest. Since you look down on me, Mr. Ethan, I know where I stand. But I think we can still be friends, honest and straightforward friends."
Suddenly, Ethan reached out and grabbed my wrist. His grip was so strong that it hurt me.
I couldn't break free, so I just smiled and asked,"What's this about, Mr. Ethan?"
"Lily, I've told you before. Don't waste your time on me. I only love Olivia. No matter what you do, you'll never be the one for me. You're not worthy, and you're not worth my time."
There were bloodshot eyes in his eyes.
This guy was crazy, right? I really didn't love him anymore.
ButI couldn't afford to offend him at the moment, I gritted my teeth and forced a smile,"Yes, yes, I know my boundaries."
Just then, Olivia's call came again, as if she had some sort of tracker on me.
Every time we met, she would call.
On the phone, Olivia said pitifully,"Mr. Ethan, I have good news for you.I'm pregnant with your child. I just found out.I'm carrying your baby."
No matter how calm and indifferent I was to Ethan, I couldn't help but feel disgusted.
I used to have a crush on Ethan because he seemed clean, aloof, with an otherworldly temperament and a cold and charming demeanor.
Now, he had gotten the girl pregnant.
Maybe Ethan thought my shock was just jealousy.
Instead, he let go of my arm in satisfaction and scolded me like a stray dog.
"Lily, now you know your place, right? No matter how much you try, I'll never fall in love with you. I only love Olivia. You're not worthy, and you're a waste of my time."
Even though I needed to be nice to him for the upcoming business investment, I couldn't hold back my anger.
Slap! I slapped him across the face.
"Ethan, shut up! That was in the past. I was blind then, but I don't care about you anymore. Having a crush on you was my shame."
I just couldn't take it anymore. I had to stop him from being so overly confident, thinking he was a heartthrob and that all women should submit to him.
He was extremely shocked and stared at me, his eyes burning with anger.
After a long time, he shrugged as if he didn't care,"But I don't believe it. You had a crush on me for ten years. How could you let go so easily?"
I was at a loss for words. Was he really that arrogant, thinking I'd be in love with him forever?
"Olivia is pregnant,"I said slowly.
Ethan suddenly laughed heartily,"I knew it. So you still have ulterior motives for me. You're afraid of being called a mistress. But Lily, you'll never win my heart.“
He turned around and left, leaving me standing there, feeling confused and lost.
Did he even understand?
Chloe explained,"You had a crush on him for ten years. Of course he wouldn't believe you've let go. He thinks every expression and action of yours is an attempt to get his attention. He probably even thinks that slap means you still care."
I couldn't understand. He clearly hated me before, treated me like a plague, always spoke sarcastically to me, and used to treat me just like an ordinary friend, taking care of me like a younger sibling.
Now that our relationship was already broken, why did he still think I would always like him?
And I noticed that he had been being sarcastic to me these days, and he was sticking to me like glue.
I couldn't figure it out.
Chloe couldn't figure it out either. Finally, she said,"Maybe he likes the feeling of being chased by you, of having you as his devoted admirer. Now that you've stopped, he's thrown off. After all, he always thinks he should be incredibly charming and that he should be the one to end things."
I laughed. This guy was really crazy.
Before long, my uncle's business investment conference started.
I hadn't paid any attention to Ethan during this time. At the conference, Olivia showed up.
She also looked a bit haggard, and her eyes were full of hatred when she looked at me.
When I was alone, she immediately blocked my way and shouted at me angrily,"Why won't you leave him alone?"
"He's mine. He's going to marry me. But because of your confession, he's always absent-minded and never thinks about planning our wedding."
"Lily, how long are you going to keep haunting us?"
Olivia was filled with so much hostility that it seemed she could swallow me whole.
My head was buzzing. Didn't Ethan hate me?
When did I become a stumbling block in their marriage?
This was ridiculous. He was just talking nonsense. I said impatiently,"Shut up. This has nothing to do with me. Ethan is a jerk, and only you treat him like a treasure."
