"Sarah?"
Mia called out tentatively,unsure.
"It's me."
I gave a bitter smile.
Starvation and isolation had withered me,I no longer looked like the old Sarah.
"You're not from this world! Why stay? Why keep Ethan obsessed with you?"
Her accusations revealed she knew the truth about me too—likely Ethan's slip.
But she gave me hope.
"Why leave?Ethan loves me madly.Soon,I'll be his wife."
My provocative words enraged her.She yanked me off the bed.
"Who are you to marry Ethan?"
She raised her hand to strike, but I dodged easily.
Blindness had sharpened my other senses.
"You dare dodge?I'll teach you a lasson!"
Mia summoned her bodyguards.
"Teach her a lesson.Show her her place."
Smirking, she watched as four or five guards grabbed me.
I closed my eyes,awaiting pain.
This might be a shameful way to die,but I was out of options.
I wouldn't be Ethan's captive.We had no future.
Before the blows landed,a roar stopped them.
"Stop!Now!"
Ethan rushed in,shoving Mia aside, snatching me from the guards.
"Let go,Ethan!"
I struggled,biting his arm hard.
Another plan ruined because of him!
He only winced, ordering Mia and the guards to go out.
"Ethan! She's two-faced—don't trust her!"Mia's cries faded, and the hope in my heart faded with her.
I knew she'd never return.
I bit until I tasted his blood.
Ethan set me on the bed, ignoring his wound.
Pain and sorrow swirled in his eyes.
"Sarah, can't we ever get back together?"
"Get back together?Ethan,we were never 'together'."
My faint voice stung him.
Indeed,we'd never been together.
Our first meeting,he discarded me with disgust, followed by endless insults and humiliation.
Later,he learned the truth—so what?
What wass done was already done.No amends could fix it.
Ethan knelt, begging for my forgiveness, even turning my past torments back on himself.
He hoped I'd forgive him,but I'd never hated or loved him.
If yesterday's regret was a tide, today's guilt was a tsunami.
"Ethan,I don't belong here.I won't stay here, even if it means I have to die."
His head hung low,but I felt wet drops on my hand—tears, bitter and heavy.
"Can you...tell me about you and your love?"
