My parents looked at Emily, who was making a scene. Seeing the bruises on her arms and face, it was hard for them not to feel distressed. However, they didn't act rashly any more. Instead, they first turned to me. Years of affection made it hard for them not to feel sorry for her, but rationally, they knew it was better to care for themselves than to waste their sympathy on this ungrateful wolf.
I pretended to ignore my parents'gaze, and instead, I frowned and quickly stepped forward to help Emily up, comforting her. At first, Emily pretended to refuse to get up, trying to draw everyone’s attention. But I managed to pull her up forcefully.
Once she was on her feet, I immediately spoke in a voice loud enough for everyone to hear, "What's with the dramatic entrance? You have to tell us exactly what happened to you.”
Emily looked annoyed by me, but her eyes lit up as soon as she heard my words. "Sis, look at these wounds on my body. That bastard Jack did this. He took his anger out on me when he was in a bad mood." Her eyes became even redder, and her voice was filled with grievance. "Sis, you've always been the best to me all along. Are you just going to stand by as your only little sister gets bullied?"
I laughed coldly inside, knowing she thought of me as the best yet always used me as a pawn. Some gratitude! Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Jack, who had a dark expression, approaching from outside. I frowned and suddenly said to Emily with a look of disappointment, "You've been like this since you were a child, being fickle about everything, art class, piano class... you name it. Whatever you wanted, Mom and Dad, and I did our best to support you, but you never saw anything through."
“Regarding your relationship with Jack,I asked you several times if you were truly determined.Every time, you told me firmly that he was the love of your life.Mom,Dad,and I thought you had finally settled down,so we agreed. But now you say you regret it.I’m very disappointed in you. This isn’t just irresponsible to your own life;it also betrays someone else’s sincere feelings.”
Emily stared at me in disbelief,as if she couldn’t understand why her sister, who used to dote on her, could be so calm and say such things after seeing her injuries.Cold sweat broke out on her forehead, and she instinctively reached out to stop me from continuing.
I slapped her hand away and continued seriously, "You're an adult now; it's time to grow up. No one's going to be responsible for your life forever. You've got to take responsibility for the things you do."
I knew she deliberately lured Jack here, expecting our whole family to fight her battles.Of course, she didn’t want her plan to be disrupted by me.After having her hand slapped away, she started to stutter and explain,“No,it’s not like that.I don’t regret it.I just…”
Unfortunately, Emily didn't anticipate her plan to be ruined by me, so she couldn't come up with a reasonable explanation, only fueling Jack's anger with her panic and guilt expression.
