On the eve of my wedding, my fiancé proposed to his childhood sweetheart in the wedding venue that I had painstakingly designed, which cost a six-figure sum. They looked like a match made in heaven, their eyes brimming with tender affection for each other. After eight years in a relationship ,my fiancé,Ethan Walsh, knelt on one knee, holding a ring that didn’t fit my finger size:
“Chloe, you’re the only love of my life. Will you marry me?” I clapped and praised the”loving couple”alongside his parents. Then I canceled his credit cards on the spot, repossessed the villa in my name, and returned to inherit my family’s billion-dollar fortune. However, he grabbed his true love’s throat, claiming he only ever loved me. … My wedding to Ethan Walsh was just a week away. I took his parents to tour the wedding venue I’d designed myself.
When we first discussed hiring a wedding planning company, he and his parents suggested that I should be the one to design the wedding. After all, I was a somewhat well-known designer. They argued it’d save tens of thousands.Plus, they said it was only meaningful if I designed it with my own hands. I arrived at the auditorium ,poured my entire savings and three months of my hard work into it. Ethan’s parents marveled at the grand hall and lavish decor, their eyes gleaming with novelty ,like kids in a candy store. Just then I noticed a couple standing on the stage. The man in a sharp suit, the woman in a pristine white wedding gown, gazing at each other like smitten lovers. Ethan’s parents were unimpressed.
“Who are these people, hogging someone else’s wedding venue?” I held them back, shaking my head.”It’s fine.Let’s take it as borrowing some of their luck in advance.” The man knelt down one knee, pulling out a red velvet box and opening it in front of the woman. “Chloe, you’re the only love of my life. Will you marry me?” The woman nodded shyly. Maybe I was too eager for my own wedding with Ethan, but the man’s voice sounded exactly sounds like his. I took a few more steps closer. The smile on my face faded. The man embracing the woman was none other than my fiancé,Ethan Walsh. And the ring he had used to propose to me—one that didn’t fit my finger size—now sat perfectly on Chloe Bennett’s hand. He’d told me he couldn’t afford a custom ring,so he bought one off the shelf, promising to get me a better one when he earned enough money. I believed him. In fact, I didn’t care about a ring.I just wanted his sincerity, his heart. But reality slapped me hard. It wasn’t that he didn’t have the money to custom-make a ring. Instead, that ring was custom-made for another woman. “Smack!” A sharp crack rang out.Ethan’s mom stormed the stage, smacking him across the face. “You shameless fool! How dare you flirting with another woman here!” Ethan and Chloe finally noticed us.Panic flashed across Ethan’s face.Seeing me,he instinctively shielded Chloe,as if I were some vicious shrew. “Abigail, don’t misunderstand us.There’s nothing between me and Chloe.” “Nothing? The ring is already on her finger, and she’s wearing a wedding dress. It turns out that after all my hard work, I’ve been making wedding clothes for someone else. Shouldn’t you pay me for the decoration cost of this auditorium?” My face darkened. Chloe seemed to be really scared and hid behind Ethan, whimpering,”Ethan, who is she? She’s so mean,so scary.” Ethan pulled her into his arms tenderly. When he looked at me again, his expression had changed. “Abigail,Chloe’s sick.I’m just helping fulfill her final wish.If you’re upset, you can take it out on me, not her.” His cold, wary gaze pierced me. I clenched my fists,my freshly manicured nails digging into my palms. “Is her last wish to marry a married man and be his mistress?“ “Abigail!”Ethan snapped.”Watch your words.Chloe’s a kind, innocent girl.I won’t let you insult her!” My heart turned to ice-cold ,a dull pain spreading through my body. Ethan Walsh, my first love with whom I had been in a relationship for eight years, my fiancé,was now turning on me for another woman. I closed my eyes.Ethan’s mother’s voice broke through. “Abby,Ethan’s not like that. You know him.Chloe grew up with him and always liked him. She’s dying soon,so this is just a formality. You’re still the rightful Mrs.Walsh!” Even now, they were still making excuses for him. That slap was just for show to appease me.. Was being Mrs.Walsh some prestigious title? When I opened my eyes, all that remained in my gaze was calmness. I looked at Ethan’s scheming parents and said flatly,”No need.” I pulled out my phone and called my assistant,Fiona. “Fiona, tell the crew to stop decorating the venue. Just tear it all down.” Previous Chapter
