"Professor...When will you be there? I’ve been waiting!"
Daniel Thompson hung up and bid farewell to Officer Linda.
"Sorry,I promised my student to attend her graduation."
"I'll take my leave now."
Linda studied the abrupt shift in his demeanor. .The questions she’d meant to ask died on her tongue. ”Be careful, kid. Don’t end up losing someone you’ll regret.”
Daniel Thompson didn't look back. But I saw his figure pause for a moment, and then he said coldly.
"Don't worry.Leaving her is the one decision I will never regret."
After leaving these words,Daniel Thompson left the police station without looking back.
I followed him to the school. At the graduation party, when Emily saw him walking towards her from a distance, she flinging herself into his arms.
"Daniel...I knew you would definitely come!"
Daniel handed her a bouquet, his smile strained.
"Happy graduation."
Emily clung to his waist, gazing up at him."I thought you'd forgotten"
"Fortunately,you came."
At this moment, the lights at the party went out.In the darkness,Emily looked straight at Daniel. Her eyes were bold and straightforward."Professor Thompson...May I kiss you?"
Daniel pursed his lips and his eyes swept over Emily. He tried to push her away.
"Emily,you're drunk."
Ignoring him, Emily stood on tiptoe and kissed the man in front of her.Daniel was stunned for a moment,as if struggling for the last time. Finally,he gave in and lowered his head, deepening the kiss.
Watching them twist together in the shadows, I felt a surge of nausea. It reminded me of the day when Daniel and I graduated. It was also in such a scene.I wore a beautiful evening dress and waited at the entrance of the party, rejecting all the boys who tried to strike up a conversation.I only wanted to wait for the person I liked. But I waited until late at night. When everyone had left the campus,I squatted alone at the entrance of the hall, crying my eyes out.
Just as I’d given up, a figure in bandages limped toward me—Daniel, fresh from the hospital after a car accident. He’d sighed in relief, pulling me close. ”Silly girl. I told you to wait, and you actually stayed? What if I hadn’t come?“
"What would you do?"
My nose twitched.I lowered my head, lacking confidence.
"You said...to wait for you."
"Daniel,you're late."
His teasing grin faded when he saw my tears. He brushed them away, gentle and remorseful. ”Never again. Annie—will you dance with me?”
There were still tears on my stunned face, but my ears were burning red.I placed my small hand in his.
"I'd love to."
That night, while we were dancing,I felt a cold ring being put on my finger.Daniel's voice came.
"Annie...Marry me.I’ve wanted to make you my wife for so long.”
Later,I accepted his proposal.Daniel excitedly picked me up,and there were tears in his beautiful eyes.I was held in his arms as if I were a precious treasure. He leaned down and whispered in my ear.
"Annie,I ...love you so much."
Now, that same man held another girl, not pulling away.
When the lights of the party came back on,Daniel subtly pushed Emily away. When they got home,Daniel placed the drunk Emily on the sofa, but she grabbed him and sat on his lap.
