I ignored Ryan, stormed out, hailed a cab,and sped to Silverton Medical Center.
At the hospital,I spotted my parents outside the OR,sobbing uncontrollably.
Looking at the two living people in front of me, my eyes couldn’t help but sting.

Last life,Ethan’s will named me his sole heir.
I thought it was love, excluding his parents.
As a result, not only did I not get a single cent, but I also took on huge debts.
My parents, pitying me,sold their retirement home and drained their savings to help me pay off the debts.
They were already in their late sixties, but they didn’t even have a stable place to live. They drifted around with me all day long. In the end, they were so overworked that they got seriously ill. Until they died, I didn’t even have the money to buy them a tombstone.
I had always been haunted by this matter and felt deeply guilty.

Now,fate gave me a chance to honor them.
“Mom,Dad…”
I looked at the two of them and spoke slowly, my voice trembling a little.
They turn around, and rushed up to hug me.

“Emily, your sister’s gone, your husband too—We’re so unfortunate. What sins have we committed!” Mom wailed.
I wanted to tell them the truth, but”rebirth”would sound insane. I’d expose Ethan and Ava slowly.
“You’re Ethan Carter and Ava Harper’s family,right?They didn’t survive,”Dr.Reed said,emerging from the OR.”I’ve told the elders repeatedly—they won’t accept it.Please,help them face reality.”
As he turned to leave,I stopped him.”Wait.”
“You say they’re dead. Can I see their bodies?”
Dr.Reed froze, his face stiffening.”Ma’am,are you doubting our staff? It’s understandable that these two old people are unreasonable, but why are you acting so absurdly as well!
“Dr.Reed,I just want to see my husband and sister one last time.Is that unreasonable?Don’t families have that right?”
I leaned in.”Or are Ethan and Ava not actually dead?”
As soon as these two sentences came out, I clearly saw a layer of sweat appearing on his forehead.
Bingo—he was in on it.
“How could that be! You... this!” he stammered, nervous.
“Emily!”
Ryan’s voice interrupted. He was sweating profusely and panting heavily.
“Don’t trouble Dr.Reed. He’s also thinking about the baby in your belly. Pregnant women have weak resistance, and they’re likely to get infected with bacteria if they enter the operating room. Listen to him.”
I noted Ryan’s twitching jaw. He was scared too.
“For the sake of the baby in my belly, I have to take a look at my husband even more! The baby won’t be able to see its biological father when it’s born. Now that it’s still in my belly, it must take one last look at its biological father!”
Dr.Reed and Ryan exchanged glances, realizing they couldn’t stop me.Reluctantly, they let me into the OR.
As soon as I walked into the operating room, I saw my husband and sister lying on the operating table. There were no signs of injury on their bodies at all, and even their complexions were very ruddy. They didn’t look like corpses at all.
How stupid was I in my last life, believing their lies without a glance?
