Chapter 44

Anastasia couldn't hide the shock that covered her whole face. He leaned down his head until he was closer to her, his scent quickly clouding her sense of smell. He reeked of trees and dirt. It was obvious he really put so much effort to get past across the borders. Groaning, she tried to move against his hold but held it tight right where it was above her head.

His eyes looked down and found her parted lips. All the while, Anastasia continued to glare at him. His other hand reached out to touch her face, his finger touching her lower lip. "You smell so sweet, Luna," he breathed out. "Will you let me taste you?"

"Don't you dare," she hissed, every second getting intense. She desperately wanted to punch him. His smirk was adding fuel to her anger.

"You're so feisty," he chuckled, his voice husky. "We'll have so much fun."

"No, we won't," she growled, trying to move her arm and struggling from his hold. But he was just too strong.

"Your bravery is highly appealing, little Luna," he teased. "But your innocence is even more attractive." Speechless, she could only stare at his eyes, getting lost in it. His eyes used to be darker but now they were so green, like the leaves that fell from the tall trees.

He lowered his head, his lips inching a little bit closer. She watched it happen, surrendering to him. But just as she felt he was about to kiss her and taste her lips, the door slammed open and he distanced away from her in an instant.

Alpha Draco was already tackling him to the ground, punching his face severely. Out of words, Anastasia just stood there and look at him, horrified. Draco was so mad that she had never seen him look like this.

Edward quickly came in and tried to stop him from killing the rogue with strong punches. A lot of them rushed to get inside the comfort room and she saw Jenny from the corner of her eye, coming up to her and wrapping a warm shawl around her shoulders.

"Alpha Bourne," Edward called, trying to stop him. "We need him alive."

Heaving, Draco stood up and the rogue was being forced on his knees right in front of him. She watched as he gasped for air. He was already beaten severely. Anastasia never thought Draco could ever beat someone hard enough to look like this.

"How dare you enter these borders?" demanded the Alpha as he looked down at the wild rogue. Even looking wounded and beaten, he could still laugh and look so nonchalant, as if he couldn't feel the pain anymore. Anastasia could even see blood dripping down his mouth.

"Don't you remember me?" he asked, looking up at the Alpha with one eye open. He removed his mask and showed him his bare face. This time, almost everyone gasped, shocked to see his true identity.

Something flickered in Draco's eyes. "Marcus."

It happened so fast.

Alpha Draco punched the wild rogue called Marcus on the face and he stumbled back to the ground. The silent atmosphere around the room was very unnerving. Everyone seemed to be so quiet as if they knew what was going to happen next. The stranger only grinned, blood coloring his teeth.

"You still haven't changed, Draco," he remarked as he wiped the blood off his mouth with his wounded arm. Then his gaze found Anastasia's reddened face. "I see you found your mate."

"Don't you dare talk to her or even look at her!" Draco roared.

A deep chuckle was heard as Marcus stood up without any struggle, still looking down at her. "I wonder what it's like to have a pretty mate like you," he thought out loud. Her eyes widened in shock just as she heard everyone's gasps.

This time, Alpha Draco was shaking in anger. He grabbed Marcus by his shirt and slammed him to the wall, punching his face again and again.

This wild rogue.

He looked like someone who had lived in the wilds for far too long and survived everything. Even Draco's punches didn't seem to hurt him. However, they both looked alike in physique. Anastasia began to feel anxious as she saw Alpha Draco being held back and the rogue being dragged away.

Draco was out of breath as he pushed Edward away who was just trying to calm him. He quickly turned to look at her and his face softened. He ran a hand down his face and exhaled a heavy sigh.

"Baby doll, I'm so sorry," he murmured, hugging her and rubbing her back.

"I'm okay," she told him honestly. "I wasn't hurt or anything."

"You're bleeding."

Anastasia quickly looked down at her arm and fair enough, she was bleeding. He closed his eyes, trying hard to calm down. "What did he do?"

"He put a knife against my throat. Luckily, I got away and he must've wounded me. He even said some things that are quite disturbing. What is it truly that happened between the two of you, and who is he?"

"No one," he answered. "You don't have to worry about it. I'll take care of him and make sure you never get harmed again. You'll be safe now."

Anastasia smiled gently. "That's good news."

Alpha Draco took a towel from Jenny wiped his bloody hands with it. Then he took her hand. "Come with me."

She could sense there was something he wasn't ready to tell her. Something he was ashamed of. She knew it wouldn't be a good choice to push him to talk. But for now, she was glad she was safe now.

The whole night was spent with a silent dinner. Anastasia took a long look at Draco who seemed to be not himself at the moment. He looked even more pissed now that the rogue was imprisoned. She didn't even know that they had a dungeon somewhere underneath the mansion.

Only one thing was left unknown however. Who was the culprit that helped the rogue get past the borders? She was sure that Draco was aware of this. There was one traitor among them and it could be anyone.

Soon as dinner was over and the talk about the rogue finally ceased, Draco took her upstairs and sat with her on the large bed. She leaned back against the soft pillows as Draco looked at her wounded arm. "I shouldn't have let you out of my sight," he muttered with regret. "I should've been there."

"Hey, relax," she tried to calm him down. "I'm safe now."

"What if I didn't show up?" he questioned. "Who knows what could've happened to you."

She sighed. "Don't think much about it."

"I won't forgive myself if something happened to you. Do you understand that? I can't ever forgive myself." He put his hands on his face, hoping it would take away his stress.

"You kept your promise. That's more than enough."

"What promise?"

"That you'll always be there to save me," she muttered under her breath. "You're kind of like my knight in shining armor. I'm so glad you came."

With soft eyes, he kissed her forehead with a faint smile. Just then Jenny knocked on the opened door and came in with a medication kit. She brough it to him and the Alpha proceedes to treat her wounded arm.

"Thanks," Anastasia said, looking at Jenny.

"You're welcome, Luna. Do you need anything else?"

"No, thank you."

Jenny left with a curt bow and closed the door behind her.

"Who do you think helped the rogue get inside?" Anastasia asked as Draco finished wrapping up her arm. She might be safe now but as long as there was a traitor in the pack, she wouldn't be safe any longer.

"I'm not sure," he said, thinking deeply. "But tomorrow, we'll find out. I've doubled the guards and watchers. I'll put an end to this as soon as possible."

"That's good to hear," Anastasia replied, feeling a heavy weight being lifted off her chest. But something was still bothering her. "When the rogue held me captive.. he told me something that I can't stop thinking about."

"What is it?"

"He said that.. his family was killed and a lot of other families were murdered. He claims his whole life was ruined and it was all because of your father. It can't be true, right? He has to be lying. Your father didn't take innocent lives and wipe out families, and even children." Anastasia looked at him, hoping she was right.

However, the look on Draco's face was strange to her. He held her hand, his eyes looking down as if he couldn't look at her face. Her heart stopped when he finally spoke. "Everything he said was true."
