Chapter 43

"I hope you know what it feels like.. to watch your family die right before your eyes. My mother.. took her own life. She even wanted to kill me too," he laughed, but there was nothing funny about that at all. Anastasia could only hear a child crying for help. A lonely child who grew up living for vengeance.

"Sometimes, I wish she did," he continued. "Perhaps it would've changed everything. My whole life was ruined, and it was all because of Draco's father. At least, I see now why I was left to live after that." Then he gazed at her, his eyes full of madness and anger. "To fulfill my revenge."

He gritted his teeth and it only signified how long he had waited to see her now. Anastasia felt like he was accusing her. As if she was the reason he was miserable and killing her would end all of it. In some ways, perhaps that would've made him satisfied. But killing would not end with killing. And justice wasn't meant to be like this.

"I know I said I don't know you or even your whole story," she began. "But whatever you're planning, it won't justify your family's death. Killing me will not change what happened. You will only bring more destruction and suffering to the pack and even.. to my own family."

"I don't care," he hissed. "All of you deserve to suffer. His father was a ruthless Alpha. He destroyed so many families, took so many lives! Tell me how I can forgive someone like that! Tell me how I can just forget everything!" he shouted, his jaw clenching.

He looked so hurt, so broken. She watched his eyes turn even darker and colder right before her. He must've been so lonely and depressed all those years to be so angry like this. She wanted to do something. Anything! But there was pretty much nothing she could do to a dead man walking.

"I can't ever forgive someone like that," he murmured. "I'll kill the Bourne Family. Every last one of them."

Anastasia felt a sudden chilling fear creeping through her bones, reminding her that there was something much scarier than a gost — a broken man driven by anger and madness who seeks his revenge. She knew it would be hard for him to see and understand things clearly especially when he had suffered so much as a child and could only focus on his own selfish needs and reasons.

"I wanted to love him like a brother," he muttered under his breath. "But a son will grow up like his father and history will repeat itself."

His angry hateful words were spoken like a mad man. She felt sorry and pity for him. She couldn't really blame him for what happened to him.. or even for what he had become. Things were just the way they were and life would always be unfair.

But It's always our choice to do what's right.

"You're wrong," she said finally, speaking up, and he seemed surprised. "Draco may seem like a bad guy. But deep down, I know he's different. Even if.. we didn't have a good beginning, he never took advantage of me.. Never caused any harm against me. As far as I can see, everyone here look up to him and admire him as their leader."

She spoke with sincerity and honesty. Amanda had always told her that Alpha Draco was their savior. The wolf who saved them from injustice. Even Jenny was still madly in love with him, although she wouldn't admit it.

Tears slowly fell down her cheeks and she couldn't stop them. "He was just a lonely child.. pressured into becoming an Alpha at such a young age," she muttered with a deep breath. "A boy mistreated by his parents. A man betrayed by his friend."

For the past few weeks, his change in behavior was evident. The way he took care of her.. When he let her call her father.. Deep down, she knew he never intended to hurt her and only wanted her to be safe.

"Your only mistake," she continued, "is you stabbed him in the back when he treated you like a brother."

The surprised angry look on the rogue's face was worth it. "You know nothing," he stated.

"Maybe not. But I know this.. Draco isn't like his father."

His eyes turned deadly as he laughed again to her face. "You really are too naive, sweet Luna." He took a step forward, intimidating her. "Ever since I was banished, my life became a living hell. You have no idea of what I went through.. No idea of what I suffered just to be alive. But now I'm here.. I can finally fulfill my revenge."

Suddenly, she felt her chest tightening. She felt like she was drowning and she desperately wanted to be saved.

Where are you, Draco?

Where are you when I need you?

The stranger neared her with heavy footsteps. "Don't you dare!" she warned but he ignored her nonchalantly. He stood tall in front of her, looking down at her face with fierce eyes. Anastasia raised her hand to punch him but he caught it quickly with a firm grip.

"You see, Draco is a messed up man. He doesn't deserve someone like you."

He put his hand on the wall beside her head, holding her arm above her head, and showed her his evil smile. "What do you want?" she hissed through gritted teeth.

"I want what I never had."

"And what's that?" she spat, feeling her heartbeat quickening.

His eyes flickered as he looked at her. "A mate."
