Kate and Nari stood at the entrance of the mansion welcoming the guest who had arrived to celebrate. Though they had wanted the party to be like a small gathering just for family members and close family friends, Kate had other things in mind. She needed the social gathering to boost her social life and status, something her father would never allow.
The old man hates gatherings and parties so he never dare host any. He barely even attends the ones he's invited to, unless it's important. Kate only realized now that she hated her father for that too. There are so many things he did she has had to endure through the years but not anymore.
Since Noah was watching her, she wouldn't kill him yet, but that doesn't mean she won't kill him later. His death day is definitely coming.
"Welcome." Kate said to a familiar stiletto's who walked in.
"Thank you Kate" Even if they hadn't quite ended on good terms the last time, she had honoured Kate's invitation to see the old man. She has heard a whole lot about him, how he punished Kate and Nari because of Anna till she tried to kill him.
For someone who is loved by almost everyone online, she sure is the devil herself. If Channel hadn't seen what Anna did to Nari first hand, she would have never believed the girl could be so heartless. She can decieved the world but not her.
"Thank you for coming." Besides Chan, was her daughter Ava by her side. Ava was finally glad to have arrived back at Summerlane, she doesn't care if her mother decides to return to where they came from, but she knows she's staying here to better her career. She might not have won the diamond competition, but little brands have met her to market their product and also, she has gotten more followers on all of her social media accounts.
"Nari." Ava greeted and both girls smiled to each other. It isn't just one person against Anna at the moment, they're two and Nari is so sure when Mack's eventually returns, he wouldn't bat an eye in joining them to defeat Anna.
"I've missed you." Ava said.
"I've missed you too." Kate smiled at the two girls. "Why don't you two catch up, I'll ask the butler to attend to the other guest." Kate said and both girls nodded and started walking away. They had a lot of plans to make and a lot of things to talk about.
"How is your grandfather now?" Chan asked. She knows she's the only person Kate can never lie to not matter what.
"He's in his room preparing for the party. He'll be out soon." Kate said sadly. She knew she had to pretend for everyone in attendance of this event tonight. They need to see she's innocent.
"Is he really okay Kate?" Chan asked to see her friend shake her head. She started sobbing lightly. Her sobs attracted the pity gaze of a few people around. Chan hugged her, patting her shoulder.
"That's alright Kate, we know you've tried for the general, giving up your youth for him and your neice." One woman amongst the others walked up to her. Her words attracted the attention of others and in no time they all surrounded her.
"Yes Kate, by the way, where's your neice?" Another woman asked. They all saw Anna on the news winning the diamond crown, a lot of people recognized her and others just shamed her as they watched.
"I..."
"Didn't she just win the diamond award?" Kate's words were interrupted by another woman. She had infact watched the show because of her daughter and had seen Anna being crowned. The woman was very proud of the girl. The little girl she knew, has now grown into a huge star.
"She did?" Another woman asked and she nodded. "Yes, the queen of Crownsville had crowned the girl herself and promised to mold her statue in Crownsville." She said proudly and Kate frowned. She didn't know how things turned from her to Anna. This people should never say anything good about Anna, they should talk only about Nari and not Anna.
Channel who was standing next to Kate frowned too. From everything she has heard about the girl, she couldn't take the praises they were pouring on her.
"Well she wouldn't have won against Nari, if she didn't cheat." She said and their curious gaze met hers.
"What are you talking about? My daughter violet said you can never cheat for the diamond crown, whoever wins it wins fair and square." The woman said. "Unless you're saying our dear Kate cheated to get her neice that crown." Kate quickly pinched Chan before she could say anything else. It's obvious everything was leading to her again and if Chan said anything, it would ruin her image.
She has forgotten no one knew of Anna's marriage to Noah Declan. Only their family knew.
Kate forced a smile, "Why would I do that? Anna won fair and square." The woman smiled.
"I'm glad that you love your neice so much Kate. Her mother would rest well, knowing she has left the girl in good hands." The woman said. At the same time Nari walked over to where they were to tell her mother the general was now ready to be introduced to the guest.
"Who is this Kate?" Another woman there asked to see her smile.
"This is my daughter Nari." Kate only just realized she hasn't formally introduced Nari to anyone yet. She had thought about hosting a ball for Nari, but her grandfather again saw it as useless and didn't let her. He only wanted public announcement which didn't seat right with Kate.
The people who heard Kate's words began to murmur amongst themselves as they stared at her. They couldn't believe she had a daughter, Gabriel Sui's first daughter had a daughter? But they thought both his children are useless and didn't get married neither did they have children. Kate stood proudly watching how the women ate their words.
She had endured their insults and discrimination for years, seeing her victory now was really satisfying to see.
"She is?" Victoria asked as she stared at the girl. She looks nothing like Kate or any of the Sui's.
"Isn't that Nari, the model who got humiliated at the diamond award?" Another woman whispered to the next beside her, but enough for both Kate and Nari to hear. Nari's face turned pale, she couldn't understand what was happening. She had only arrived to inform her mother about her grandfather when she ran into this.
"I think she is." Another responded staring at the girl.
"I heard she's married to that loser Mack Yong." The woman continued staring at both Kate and the one she calls her daughter. Kate clenched her hands into a fist. Her father cost this, she wouldn't be going through this humiliation if her father had let her introduce Nari the proper way.
Even if these women here know Nari is her daughter, they would still pretend like they don't.
"Mack Yong?" The other person asked. "Where is he now?"
"Yes, Kate, where is your son in law?" Victoria asked with a smile.
"He traveled for a business meeting, he'll be back the day after tomorrow." Kate said with a smile, maintaining her composure. It is best to ignore these women than get into an altercation with them. They are just too nosey for her licking.
"A son in law that is too busy to attend his father in laws welcome party." One of the women spat.
"That's enough. Are you here to see the general or judge Kate and her daughter. By the looks of things, they seem to be doing better than you all." Chan spoke for her friend. They could be of an entirely different status, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't defend her friend.
Almost immediately, Veronica and her husband Henry Yong both arrived in the Sui's mansion. She has wanted her son married to Anna, but now her son was married to Nari Sui.
Kate had invited them for the party, she didn't only invite them, she had sent clothes and other accessories for them. Veronica was grateful to be able to mingle amongst the rich again.
"Isn't that Veronica Yong?" Someone asked as they spoke and they all agreed to it. From what they heard, she was now leaving in the slums and tonight, she really looked like it.
Well, maybe every gift from Kate isn't a good one. She must have bought clothes for them, but the clothes she bought are the type only common people could wear. She still kept them in their place while she was being "generous". Veronica who hasn't seen anything good to wear in months appreciated the little she was given.
Her skin now looked so dirty and wrinkled. She looked older than she usually looked and smelled cheap too.
All of the women she looked down on in the past, were now looking back at her in disdain.
