Kate's face turned pale, her anger giving way to a flicker of panic. "I... I."
"You what, Kate?" Grace interrupted, stepping closer to her sister. "You were supposed to be there for him. You failed him, and now you're trying to blame us to cover your own negligence." Anna rushed to her aunt's side to calm her down. Her grandfather didn't need to here all of these fights and quarrels from them.
For the first time ever, Kate was lost for words. She had nothing to say to her sister.
"What are you insinuating Aunt Grace?" Nari spoke out for her mother. She didn't like the way things were turning against them.
Grace's eyes fell on the girl as she stared at her disdainfully, she still didn't know how this girl turned into a member of their family. One moment her stupid sister wanted to punish Anna for sticking with Noah, and the next moment she had brought Nari home stating she adopted the girl to make Anna jealous.
Grace recalled speaking to her father about it. She warned them that it would be a disaster. It was the most stupid decision anyone would ever make but they didn't listen. They were all blinded by hate and their anger for Anna.
Kate wondered where her sister got this sudden boldness from. Grace was always known to be shy, timid, and tongue-tied. She had been that way all her life, so how was she suddenly this bold?
"Where is your real family Nari, I know you have a family that you've neglected. Go back to them and leave us alone." Grace said. It was time her family come back to normal. Their family is falling apart and they are the cause of it.
She couldn't tell when a happy family turned into something else. Now all they do is fight and exchange words the way they like.
"How dare you Grace?" Kate asked furiously.
"You cannot keep someone else's child in our family Kate, that will not be accepted."
"This is the last time I will say this. NARI IS A MEMBER OF OUR FAMILY..."
"Grandpa!" Anna called as she rushed to his side. She tried to hold his body from shaking violently but her strength was no match for it. Martha panicked too rushing to her brothers side, she knew this would happen.
They had been engrossed in Kate and Grace's fight that that they forgot a sick person is in there.
"Douglas get the doctor." Marth said to her husband who has been silent all these while. Douglas and his son rushed out to get the doctor.
"Father please don't do this to us, were so sorry." Grace cried out. She should have gotten into an argument with Kate, she shouldn't have knowing her father is in this state.
After a few seconds, Douglas and his son returned with Fletcher and his group of nurses. "Everyone, please step back," he ordered as they surrounded the General.
Anna and her family stood by the doorway watching as the medical professionals worked on her grandfather. Her eyes moistened as she prayed silently for him to be okay. It would be a disaster if anything happens to him.
"It's alright," Grace whispered, hugging her niece who cried softly on her shoulder. Kate stared at her father, silently praying for him to die immediately. She wanted him gone as soon as possible.
Nari, standing beside Kate, glared at Grace. Grace revealed a secret she had been hiding all her life. She had no right to say anything about her. The only thing Nari was glad about was that no one seemed to have listened to Grace's words, but she failed to understand that someone had taken a sudden interest in the matter.
Even as Anna cried for her grandfather, she found herself growing curious about Nari's family. Why didn't Nari ever talk about them? What was she hiding?
In all their years of being friends Nari never once talked about her family. Only Mack knew about her and he didn't say anything either.
Anna's mind wandered, trying to piece together the puzzle. She remembered the times Nari had avoided questions about her past, her family, and her life before fame. There was always something off, something unspoken, lurking beneath Nari's polished demeanor.
Anna glanced at her and then at Kate who held a serious look on her face. She didn't know when her aunt Kate changed so much but she hopes she would get back to her senses soon.
The doctor stepped out of the room along with his nurses. "How is my brother?" Martha rushed to them so did the entire family.
"He's stabilized for now, but he's in a critical condition. We need to keep him under close observation. Any stress could be detrimental." Fletcher said.
"All of you can ot always visit him, your visit has almost cost my patient his life." Fletcher said firmly. When Noah has asked him for a favour, this is the favour he wanted. Not letting everyone visit the general the way they wanted.
They had no idea who had tried to kill him and they don't want the person visiting again.
"I'll stay with him." Kate immediately volunteered pitifully. She wanted to do the work herself and make sure she kills him this time. The last time she had entrusted a job on anyone, it hadn't ended well.
Fletcher smiled at her request. "Mr Declan has already assigned a personal maid that will take good care of him." Kate frowned. That useless boy has involved himself in their family for so long and she's had just enought of it. Whatever happened in their family is none of his business.
If does matter if he's married to Anna or not.
"Mr Declan?" Martha asked.
