"Are you alright?" Lola approached her, passing her a drink, and Anna accepted it gratefully. She glanced over at Noah once again, finding comfort in his worried gaze. He mouthed a 'You did well', and she smiled.
It was funny how well they communicated with mere looks. Noah looked as good as always, and, of course, he had most of the ladies eyeing him from where they sat. Anna felt a pang of jealousy at some point, but she quickly dismissed it; Noah didn't even notice them.
"George is always like that," Lola said, rolling her eyes. "He's brother to that DP at your last photoshoot. They act like they run the industry." She wasn't the only one fed up with the Borne brothers; everyone was.
"Who are they?" Anna asked, curiosity piqued.
Lola sighed and began to explain. "Their family owns one of the first entertainment companies that came into existence. Though the company no longer exists, they have massive connections around the globe," she briefed.
"They aren't just anyone; they're part of the people that run the industry, and George would stop at nothing to destroy you," Lola continued, her tone serious.
Anna could feel her heart racing at Lola's words but she didn't regret her actions. If she could, she would deal with him all over again. "Let's just say you have a thing to attract the wrong people to yourself." Lola smiled. "We'll have to improve your communication skills, there would be a lot of people like him in the future. They will only stop if you announce your marriage to Mr Declan." Lola sipped from her own glass as she spoke.
Anna knew the reason Noah was yet to announce their marriage. They were yet to settle the differences between bothe their families. If they announced anything, it would be easier to tear her down as well as Noah.
"No need to worry too much. We'll resolve everything hopefully."
That man was being such an asshole to her yet he owns so much power to tarnish her?
Anna turned to Noah again and this time he was not in the hall. His seat looked empty, it's almost as if he wasn't even there. Noah had informed her about his hate for parties and occasions, she wondered if he left her.
She had gotten herself into the biggest trouble there is. Just when she thought she had been free from Mack and Nari, she had fallen into a bigger mess. If George had so much power, could Noah stop this like before.
She had asked him to not meddle in her life, but right now... Anna bit her lips. She rose from where she sat and walked over to her family's table. She couldn't be anywhere close to the Declan's though she had greeted them before.
Noah had been too generous to keep his family's table opposite to hers. She could already feel the tensed air between both tables but they all knew not to do something stupid before all of these people in here. At the same time, her aunt Kate walked back in too.
"Uhh, I can't find her anywhere she isn't even picking my calls." Kate groaned with a frown on her face as she sat down next to her grandfather and Grace.
"Nari is a mature woman, if there's anything you'll be the first one she'd call." The general said placing his hands on his daughters arm. He didn't know why Kate decided to adopt that girl, but he hopes it's for the better. He hopes she isn't being malicious towards Anna.
His eyes went to the Declan's and he frowned. His hate for his granddaughter and them reviving again. The fact Anna had chosen to be a Declan over them irked him so much.
"He's right Kate, maybe she got tired and decided to leave." Grace shrugged but Kate knew it was more than that. Nari had said she wanted to steal the show from Anna, when she had seen Anna walk through the stage she knew something was wrong.
She should have been there with her, she should have followed her when she left. "Yes, it's not like the show is worth the time." Kate rolled her eyes.
"You might have seen her before Anna, you must have seen Nari before." She said.
"I just became the face of one of the biggest entertainment companies in the country and I didn't get a congratulations from my family, yet here you are asking me about that girl." Anna said staring right at her aunt Kate but the woman suddenly started laughing out loud like she said something funny.
"You don't expect us to love and care for you now do you?" Kate asked. "You're a Declan now, your family should be the one to do that. Or are they too ashamed to show you off in public?" Anna forced the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes.
"You're my family. The family I've known since a child."
"You stopped being a member of our family the very day you backstabbed us for the Declan's." The general spoke this time. "You cannot be a Sui and a Declan at the same time." He added.
"Father you don't have to be so harsh on her." Grace said.
"Please Grace, don't make me disown you too. Your niece went against me because of that boy and now she's no longer a member of the Sui's household." He declared. Grace sealed her lips. Even if she had a lot to say, she knew not to say a thing to her father.
"Can you see how fast it is to replace you Anna? I can make you varnish like you no longer exist." He said ever so slow.
"This would be the last time we would attend any event or party that has anything to do with you. The only reason we were here is because of Nari." Anna rose from where she sat and quickly dashed out of the hall. She couldn't let the world see her cry before her family.
