Chapter 5: Ex-Husband's Approach

The next morning, as soon as I walked into the Rainwood Corporation building, I sensed an unusual atmosphere. My colleagues' gazes followed me discreetly, and whispered conversations abruptly stopped as I passed by.

"Emily Wilson," Ms. Li from HR stopped me, "Mr. Morgan asks you to go directly to his office."

I nodded, knowing full well why. Last night's cat rescue incident had obviously spread throughout the company, and combined with my "private meeting" with the CEO as a new employee, it was enough to become the focus of office gossip.

The elevator went straight to the top floor, where Alexander Morgan's assistant Michael Davis was already waiting.

"Miss Wilson, Mr. Morgan is waiting for you," he said politely, but the curiosity in his eyes was obvious.

I followed him toward that famous ebony door. A place that I could only gaze at from afar in my previous life, I was now about to enter.

"Miss Lin has arrived," Michael Davis announced after knocking on the door.

"Let her in," Alexander Morgan's voice came from inside.

As I pushed open the door, a spacious office came into view. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows was a panorama of the entire Jiang City, with sunlight streaming through the specially made glass onto the hardwood floor, forming warm patches of light. Alexander Morgan stood by the window, his back to me, holding a document in his hand.

"Sit," he instructed simply without turning around.

I chose the chair opposite his desk and waited quietly. This was a power game, and I wouldn't submit easily.

Finally, he turned around, walked to the desk and sat down: "All your predictions have come true."

"I know." I replied calmly.

"How did you do it?" He looked straight into my eyes, "Even the top-level corporate spies couldn't obtain such precise information."

I smiled: "I've already told you, I'm from the future."

Alexander Morgan was silent for a moment, then took out a document from the drawer and pushed it to me: "This is a cooperation agreement. I believe in your valuable 'foresight,' and you need my resources to deal with Victor Thompson. A fair trade."

I opened the agreement and quickly browsed through it. The content was simple: I provide business intelligence and early warnings, he provides resources and protection. But one clause caught my attention.

"'During the cooperation, Emily Wilson needs to wear a tracking device at all times'?" I raised an eyebrow, "You still don't completely trust me."

"Business principles." Alexander Morgan said expressionlessly, "You can refuse."

I picked up the pen and signed my name without hesitation: "Deal. But I also have a condition: I want to join your core team and participate in decision-making. Only this way can I help you to the maximum extent."

Alexander Morgan seemed to have anticipated this: "Very well, from today on, you are my special assistant, reporting directly to me."

Just then, there was a knock on the office door.

"Mr. Morgan, Mr. Victor Thompson from Thompson Enterprises is here to see you," Michael Davis's voice came through.

I exchanged a glance with Alexander Morgan, and a hint of amusement flashed in his eyes: "Looks like your 'former fiancé' couldn't wait. Let him in."

The door opened, and Victor Thompson walked in. Seeing me sitting across from Alexander Morgan, he was visibly startled for a moment, but quickly resumed his business smile: "Mr. Morgan, I didn't expect Miss Wilson to be here as well."

"Mr. Thompson, long time no see." I stood up with a smile, though a wave of disgust welled up inside me. In my previous life, this man had deceived me emotionally, used me to get close to Rainwood Corporation, and ultimately caused the destruction of my family.

"Emily is my special assistant," Alexander said coolly, "Whatever you have to say, you can say it directly."

Victor Thompson's expression changed subtly: "I'm here to discuss cooperation. Thompson Corporation has a new project that we hope to develop jointly with Linze."

"What kind of project?" Alexander Morgan asked.

"Smart home technology." Victor Thompson took out a proposal, "We have the technology, Linze has the distribution channels. A perfect combination."

I couldn't help but sneer. In my previous life, it was precisely this "perfect combination" project that allowed Victor Thompson to acquire Linze's core customer resources, ultimately leading to Linze's failure in the smart home sector.

"Mr. Gu," I began, "Chen Corporation's technology is not as advanced as they claim. Their intelligent control system has serious security vulnerabilities. Once launched into the market, it will face huge risks of privacy breaches."

Victor Thompson's face instantly darkened: "Ms. Lin, how can you evaluate a technology you haven't properly understood?"

"Oh?" I raised an eyebrow, "Then may I ask, Mr. Thompson, has your system resolved the data encryption issues during Bluetooth connection? Have you fixed the backdoor vulnerabilities during remote control?"

Victor Thompson's expression told me I had hit the mark. These issues were precisely the key factors that led to the failed cooperation between Linze and the Chen corporation in my previous life.

Alexander Morgan looked at me thoughtfully, then turned to Victor Thompson: "Mr. Thompson, it seems your project needs further improvement. Let's discuss cooperation after these issues are resolved."

Victor Thompson barely contained his anger, forcing a smile: "Of course, I'll have the technical team reassess everything. However, it's quite surprising how thoroughly Miss Lin understands our technology."

His gaze became dangerous, and I knew he was beginning to suspect me.

"Miss Wilson is very talented," Alexander Morgan suddenly said. "She has just become my special assistant, responsible for evaluating all cooperative projects. From now on, all collaborations with Linze will require her approval."

This statement was undoubtedly a declaration to Victor Thompson: Emily Wilson is now my person, not someone you can touch.

A shadow flashed in Victor Thompson's eyes, but was quickly concealed by a professional smile: "That's wonderful news, congratulations, Miss Lin. Perhaps we could find some time to catch up? We are old classmates after all."

"That won't be necessary," I replied coldly, "There's nothing for us to discuss."

After Victor Thompson left, the office fell into a brief silence.

"Was he your fiancé in your previous life?" Alexander Morgan suddenly asked.

"Yes." I nodded, "He used me to get close to Linze, steal trade secrets, and ultimately caused the destruction of my family."

Alexander Morgan's gaze turned sharp: "He will try to approach you again."

"I know," I said calmly, "but this time I'm prepared."

Alexander Morgan stood up and walked to the window: "From now on, you'll face more dangers. Victor Thompson won't give up easily, especially when he discovers you're on my side."

"I'm not afraid of danger," I said firmly, "I've already died once."

Alexander Morgan turned around and looked at me deeply: "Well, let's begin this game. Your first task: analyze in detail all of Chen Corporation's movements over the next three months, especially their connections with the Johnson family."

"The Johnson family?" I frowned. In my previous life, I had no knowledge of Victor Thompson having connections with the Johnson family.

"Yes, the Johnson family, the wealthiest in Jiang City." Alexander Morgan's gaze became complicated, "Their daughter, Claire Johnson, is my fiancée in name."

This information struck me like lightning. In my past life, I had never heard that Alexander Morgan had a fiancée!

Seeing my shocked expression, Alexander Morgan sneered: "It seems your 'foresight' has its limitations."

I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm: "Every choice changes the future. Perhaps my appearance has already altered the course of certain events."

Alexander Morgan nodded thoughtfully: "Well then, let's see how much you can change."

Leaving Alexander Morgan's office, my emotions were incredibly complex. Claire Johnson? Alexander Morgan's fiancée? This was information that didn't exist in my previous life at all. I began to wonder if every step after my rebirth was truly proceeding according to my plan, or if fate was toying with me once again?
