The henchman had a face like stone, no expression at all. He walked to them slowly and carefully, eyes fixed on their faces. Eki and Dapo became physically ready for any possible action that might take place.
"Hmm, hmm," the assistant made a sneaky smile. "Very nice surprise to see you both again."
Dapo tried very hard to keep his face calm, but inside his chest, his heart was beating very fast. "Maybe this is wrong," he said with a voice that shook a little bit.
The henchman laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "A mistake? Hardly," he replied. "You've caused us a lot of trouble."
Eki and Dapo exchanged a worried glance; they knew it was very urgent to move fast. They cannot let this man catch them without any fight back.
As the henchman came closer, Eki got ready by placing her hand inside a pocket and grabbing something small and pointy. It was a letter opener, like a weapon she made ready for battle.
Dapo, noticing her strong willpower, nodded in agreement. Both of them faced the same issue and decided they would manage it together.
The henchman was getting near, almost there when the bus took a sudden turn. The people inside started to wobble, and the henchman also lost his footing. This provided a quick break for Eki and Dapo in their pursuit.
Eki moved fast, kicking the henchman in his legs. The man fell, and this caused Dapo to run away quickly.
Dapo was running very fast to the emergency exit, his heart beating hard inside him. He must call for help; he must inform others.
When he was going away, he gave one last glance back at Eki who was still battling with one of the henchmen. Her face looked calm and serious. He thinks she can manage it, but he is not able to leave her there by herself. When I walk out, my eyes turn back to where Eki is still fighting with one of the bad guys. She had a look that showed she did not give up easily - I knew she could handle it, but I could not leave her alone in this situation.
Dapo felt his heart sink, and he jumped off the bus even when it was still in motion. He hit the ground hard and rolled to lessen the impact. Standing up fast, he started running as his chest felt like it was burning. He had to find a phone and call the police right away.
He ran until his legs felt very tired, and he started to breathe fast in short breaths. Finally, he saw a public phone booth. Shaking, he put the emergency number in the dialer.
"Help," he whispered into the phone. "I need police help. There's an attempted kidnapping."
Eki fought with the henchman, his power was strong and she started feeling tired. But when she thought about Dapo being alone and weak, it gave her strength to continue the fight. She must shield him, at any expense.
They fall and hit their seats, making many loud noises as people shout when they feel scared. Eki does not seem to understand what is happening around her; she just looks at the man in front of her.
She can escape from his hold by a sudden burst of adrenaline. She grabbed a fire extinguisher nearby and swung it at the henchman, hitting him hard and making him crash into the windowpane.
The bus moved with sudden jumps when the window shattered, causing the henchman to fall out onto the road. Eki stepped back, breathing hard and fast. She saw from the window that he disappeared into traffic.
She went back to the bus, her heart racing fast. She had a big task: find Dapo. Her eyes moved around the bus and found an empty seat for her to sit. She felt panic grow inside her. Dapo was gone.
She swiftly went to the front of the bus and hit the emergency stop button. The bus stopped abruptly with a loud noise. Eki jumped out, feeling her heart in her throat.
She glanced at the road fast, hoping to spot Dapo, but he wasn't there. Her greatest fear suddenly filled her thoughts. Dapo was not there.
She had to find him. She was on a task to bring him back. Eki began to run again, her legs pushing hard through the crowded paths with a fresh strong will. She did not know where she was going, but she knew stopping was impossible.
In her mind, she thought fast and tried to recall where Dapo may have gone. What could be the reason why he disappeared? Many questions come to her mind, but she keeps them away. The important task now is finding him.
During her run, she noticed a car behind her. It was a black sedan with very dark windows. She recognized this vehicle. It was Thorne's car.
Her fear grew stronger like ice moving through her veins. They were getting closer; she needed to find somewhere to hide and try to calm herself down.
She ran fast into a narrow alley, hoping to get away from the people who were chasing her. When she turned the corner, she bumped into someone and fell with her heart pounding very quickly.
A young lady with a worried expression on her face was the one who accidentally hit her. She asked with concern, "You okay?"
Eki looked at the woman with intense concentration, a small glimmer of hope starting to grow inside him. Perhaps this was a sign, a chance for a new beginning. She described her situation briefly, her voice trembling slightly.
The lady listened with much attention and her face looked worried. When Eki stopped talking, the lady nodded very slowly. "I can help you find assistance," she said with strong determination.
Eki felt much better. Finally, there was someone to help them. She asked with new hope, "Who?"
The woman paused briefly, her eyes reflecting a rare sort of strength. "She is named Anya," she answered. "And she understands about this better than anyone."
Just when Eki was ready to ask more questions, the sound of a car came from the alley. Both Eki and the woman exchanged worried looks; it was Thorne's men.
They had to move quickly. With nothing else they could do, Eki grabbed her hand and pulled her into a closed-door entrance. Inside there, they both huddled close to each other, feeling their hearts racing in their chests.
Through a small gap in the door, they saw the car slowly stopping. Someone jumped out and looked like a shadow against fading daylight.
It was Thorne.
