The moment we landed, I called a car to take me to my parents' house.
"You sure you're okay with this, sis?"
Jack's eyes were full of concern as we prepared to part ways.
I nodded firmly.
"It's fine. My parents won't hold a few nasty words against me.
I just need some time before telling them about us."
Jack's expression instantly transformed into an exaggerated pout.
"Am I your dirty little secret now, sis?"
I pressed my lips together, covering my face in embarrassment.
Could he be any louder? He was making me feel like a cheating husband in a soap opera, always making excuses to his mistress.
But damn, he was gorgeous—far better looking than Joel ever was.
With a sigh, I grabbed his collar and pulled him down for a very public kiss.
"Don't worry, darling. Your empress will summon you to her chambers soon."
Jack grinned, the tips of his ears turning bright red as he walked away.
For the next few days, my parents kept me under virtual house arrest, allowing me out only for work.
All to prevent me from running into Joel again.
My dad even bought an old car just so he could drive me to and from my studio every day.
