"Hey sis, why aren't you answering? Don't you like me?
I'll learn anything you're into, promise. Just one glance my way would be enough."
I blinked rapidly, my cheeks burning. His words made me sound like some femme fatale.
Another message popped up before I could respond.
"You look so cute when you blush. Makes me want to steal you away and keep you all to myself!"
He finished with a string of blushing, rolling emoticons.
I froze, my heart suddenly racing.
Joel had never made my pulse quicken like this, not even once.
But jumping straight to my ex's friend—was that really appropriate?
Even if Joel was a monster! I still had standards to maintain.
As I debated with myself, that irritating voice buzzed in my ear again.
"God, Joel, I need to learn Miss Sullivan's resilience.
If someone talked to me that way, I'd be in tears and halfway home by now."
