My face burning, I finally risked a glance at Jack Johnson—the man who'd just sent me a friend request. He sat alone in the corner, restlessly tapping at his phone.
Just my luck—he chose that exact moment to look up.
I couldn't look away fast enough. Our eyes locked across the room.
His lips curved into a smile—rare and devastatingly handsome.
My breath caught in my throat. I quickly looked down, heart hammering.
Just as I tried to compose myself, harsh laughter beside me shattered the moment.
"Come on, Joel! Don't be cruel. Poor Miss Sullivan looks ready to burst into tears."
I scowled, opening my mouth to respond, but Joel's friends jumped in before I could speak.
"Some people just don't know when they're not wanted. Garbage belongs in the trash, honey."
"Right? She's still acting like Joel's girlfriend. When Joel called you a dog, he was being generous!"
