Her hands wrapped around her stomach softly, and she looked down at it, tears forming in her eyes. How was she supposed to keep, birth and raise a baby that will grow up and find out that his or her father was married to their aunt. How would she explain the situation?
The tears that she had been holding in finally let loose and a few drops cascaded down her cheeks.
Angelica on seeing her cry swiftly pulled her into a hug. "It's okay. Please don't cry, please... It's not good for you nor the baby, you've cried too much already."
Lily raised her head again, this time to wipe her tears and sniffle. "If I take her out, will that make me a bad person?" Angelica instantly stiffed at the unexpected question, before she broke out of her trance and shook her head, slowly.
"Bringing a child you don't want and can't afford to take care of in this world is worse than letting them go on time. But is that truly what you want? To let it go?"
She immediately clutched out Angelica's arm, weeping as she shook her head. "I don't know what I want. I don't know. The father of my child is getting married to my sister, that's..."
"This isn't about the father of your child, Lily. It's about you and your child alone. Asher does not deserve to be in this picture right now. So, only think of you and that little life inside of you."
"But he's..."
"shh, that's enough." She quickly interrupted, tired of hearing how much that bum was dominating her friend's life even in his absence. There was nothing she hated more than men like Asher, and she wasn't going to let his clownery interfere in a decision Lily should make for herself and herself alone. "You should try and get some sleep, when you wake up. I'm going to prepare something light for you to eat."
"I don't feel like sleeping, Angelica. We've got a lot on our plates. We weren't able to check on the progress of the Darby mansion today, I have to get started on finding a physical office and plan a launch party, and I've got a baby growing inside of me, and I have to decide their fate. Sleep really is the last thing on my mind."
" You need energy and a clear mind to do all these that you just listed. Sleep might be the last thing on your mind, but it is the thing that you currently need the most. So, I'm going to leave you alone and I'll be taking your laptop with me. Get some rest, Lily."
Lily tried to argue when Angelica picked up her laptop and was ready to leave, but she instantly shut up and nodded when she saw the tiredness on her face. Glancing at her one more time, Angelica smiled and walked away.
Once the door was closed, Lily climbed to the bed and draped herself with the duvet, but her attempt to sleep all proved futile as her eyes remained glued to her phone.
Angelica walked downstairs and made herself comfortable in the dining area. An exasperated sigh escaped her lips and she threw her head back. She held herself together seeing the panic that Lily was in. A very justified panic because bringing a child into this world when you are unsure is such a huge deal, and she wanted to just be there for her, and luckily all her efforts to comfort Lily had silenced her own thoughts till now.
Just like the doctor advised, she had gone in for a second check up, and at first she thought she could stomach seeing those results a second time, that she could confidently see the illness that could possibly take her life boldly written on a piece of paper like it was nothing, but now that she was seated in the dining area, facing the bucket list she created the first time she got her results, she felt all her confidence wash away.
When she was first diagnosed 4 months ago, she took the news in a better stride than she thought she would, better than most people might she add. She had quickly curated a list of things she'd like to do before her life is cut short.
"Skydiving, a month long tour around France, swimming naked during winter, find the most disgusting dish in the world and eat it..." She breathed out a laugh as she quietly read out the contents of her list. Those were all the things she wanted to do, things she has been dying to do, but there was one thing she desperately wanted to do, but has gaslit herself into believing she didn't want to.
If she was going to die, she was going to give herself one more shot at love, the wild, yet soothing love she experienced with him.
Reaching for her phone, she whipped it out of her back pocket and immediately went straight to contact list. A small smile tugged on her lips once his name popped up. 3 years ago when they broke up, she lied to herself every single night that she would delete it the next day... 3 years later and she never did.
Tapping on the message icon, she took a deep and shaky breath, and typed out a simple straightforward text.
"If you're in New York, meet me at the spot in 20 minutes." The second the text, she immediately dropped her phone on the table and began pacing around the room. Regret, shame, and the prominent of it all, excitement, coursed through her body.
Less than 2 minutes later, her phone dinged with the special notification she failed to remove all these while and she immediately lurched for her phone.
A grin immediately stretched out on her face at his text, he was on his way. After 3 years of no contact and not seeing each other, she was going to lay eyes on him again, and she couldn't believe it but she was filled with nervousness.
