Chapter 57

When he walked into the house of that asswipe, Morgan, all he wanted to do was pummel him to the ground with his fists, but he had suppressed his urge and kept a smile on his face. Talking to him casually about his gratefulness about the divorce and his new quest on getting married to his rightful wife, Charlotte, like he didn't want to shoot him dead was the second most difficult thing he had done in his life.
He grinned his teeth and held back a barf at the memory. Getting married to Charlotte was the very last thing he wanted to do, talking so casually and fondly with Morgan made him feel like he was in the pits of hell getting burnt. Mrs Morgan was the only person who wasn't fond of his decision, and made sure to show that through her looks, but it didn't change how he felt about her. She was exactly the type of person to choose her marriage over her child. She has never defended her child, who needed it, so her glares meant nothing to him.
His train of thoughts was bridged when his door slammed open and a hysterical Charlotte walked in. He cringed at the sound of her voice and rolled his eyes before he masked it with a soft gaze and turned to her.
"Baby, what's wrong?" He asked, softly and Charlotte flung herself into his arms, sobbing and her tears permeated through his shirt, and he almost pushed her away but he held back and wrapped his arms stiffly around her, patting her hair. "Talk to me, what's wrong?"
"It's... It's Lily!" She finally announced and Asher immediately froze. When he saw her, she looked like she had lost a bit of weight, and she had run off like someone that was about to throw up.
"What is wrong with her?" He asked, and Charlotte paused and only then did he notice that his voice had changed and he had asked the wrong question. "Did she do anything to you?" He quickly added, hoping to redeem himself and Charlotte immediately went back to sobbing.
"Of course she did! It's Lily, she's vile." She broke away from the hug and made herself comfortable on his chair, "She ran off looking sick, so I went to check in on her and also personally tell her about the wedding and invite her, but she was just so mean. She insulted me and told me she hopes my wedding crashes! Can you believe that?"
A proud smile tugged on Asher's lips, but he immediately hid it and walked over to her with a small smile. "Our wedding is going to be excellent, Char. You will get exactly what you deserve, okay?"
A bright smile immediately lit up her face, and Asher's heart skipped a beat. The glow on her face and the smile that lit up her face reminded Asher of the seemingly sweet girl he once loved. He gulped and immediately stood up straight and cleared his throat, he knew better.
Charlotte's cheeks were coated a deep shade of the red, thanks to the desire that seemed to pass through Asher's eyes. This was the first time since he made his declaration that she noticed an actual desire for her in his eyes, and it sent her heart thumping.
"So..." He cleared his throat once again, and adjusted his tie. "Has your dad said anything lately about his business? Shouldn't you be working towards taking over? It's your right after all"
Charlotte shrugged, crossing one leg over the other. "Nope, it has never really been a dream of mine to take over the business. I prefer to wear shiny clothes and show them off, that's why I model. On that note, I have some things I'm yet to pick up for the wedding, can you get them for me? "
He smiled and whipped out his card. "Here you go, have fun. " She immediately snatched the card from him and smiled cheekily.
" Thank you, I'll see you at home." She winked at him and strutted out of the office.
Once she was gone, Asher expelled a breath loudly and made himself comfortable on the chair. His mind wandered back to Lily and he groaned, closing his eyes. Charlotte never got around to telling him how she actually was, and the curiosity was killing him.
His phone pinged with a notification and he immediately reached for it, both disappointment and apprehension washed over him when he realized it wasn't Lily but the investigator he hired.
He immediately opened the message and downloaded the document he sent him. The corners of his lips lifted as his eyes scanned through the contents of the document. He knew Morgan Enterprise was sketchy and this was evidence, he just never realized how sketchy they truly were.
"Dirty bastard" he cursed as his eyes took in the evidence of his evil for the past 35 years. He expected to see a few bad transactions, but the list was practically endless.
Asher sighed and was about to close the document, when he suddenly noticed his company's name on one of the files. He has done only one Business deal with the Morgan Enterprise, and it was clean business, he made sure of that.
His eyes went to the date and it was 15 years ago, a few months before his parents' death. He quickly clicked on the file, and it was a joint business deal with an extra company that suddenly went bankrupt 14 years ago. What was even more shocking was the fact that the file was empty. There was nothing in there, no matter how much he refreshed the page. It was a burnt file. It could only mean that Morgan had gone out of his way to make sure the business desk isn't exposed to the world.
