She poured me whisky: "I know about you and Kael."
I held the glass nervously, not daring to drink.
"A week's temporary Claim is a trivial matter," she continued. "But I understand you're considering a permanent Mark?"
"Yes..."
"Elara." She fixed me with a penetrating stare. "Do you comprehend the Nightshade Pack's position in our society?"
I nodded silently.
"Kael is the heir. He will become Pack Alpha," she stated. "He requires a strong, well-connected Omega as his Luna."
"And you... a Grey Pack Omega, forgive my directness, simply don't qualify."
I gripped the glass so tightly I feared it might shatter.
"I know I'm not good enough for him," I admitted. "But I..."
"You like him?" She interrupted.
"Yes."
She studied me for what felt like an eternity.
Finally, she sighed:
"Very well. The young must make their own decisions."
"Go. Kael is waiting for you outside."
