Chapter 10

260words
First day of the temporary Claim.

Kael showed up precisely on time outside my dorm, clutching Starbucks and a brown paper bag.

"Morning." He thrust them at me. "These are for you."

I opened the bag—coffee, croissant, and a pack of... protein bars shaped suspiciously like dog biscuits?

"Are these..."

"For you." Kael looked away, the tips of his ears turning red. "Energy boost. Alpha-grade. They work great."

Me: "Can Omegas even digest Alpha-grade supplements?"

"Yeah." He was dead serious. "I've had them. They taste good."

Me: "..."

An Alpha's definition of "tastes good" and an Omega's couldn't possibly be the same universe.

But considering he'd made the effort, I accepted them anyway.

"Thanks."

"Stop thanking me all the time." Kael scratched the back of his head. "During a Claim, it's my responsibility to provide for you."

"Oh."

We walked to the training center side by side.

In the morning light, his profile looked sharp and defined. His Alpha aura was restrained but still drew every Omega's attention.

Passersby couldn't help stealing glances at us.

"Kael," I said quietly. "Could you maybe dial it back a notch?"

"Why?" He turned, those golden wolf eyes fixing on me. "Embarrassed to be seen with me?"

"Not that..." I ran my fingers through my hair nervously. "Just too much attention. I get anxious."

Kael studied me for a few seconds before finally nodding:

"Fine. I'll tone it down."

His hand, however, secretly found mine.

Alpha body temperature runs several degrees hotter than normal. His warmth sent my heart racing.

This Alpha... completely unfair.
