How does it feel when a bullet pierces through your heart making you numb for a whole second and then the pain starts to rush in your whole body making you suffocate and near to your death?
This is the feeling I have right now.
Although I shouldn't be feeling like this, I should be relieved and free, but now I am pressed with a heavy rock and it's difficult to breathe.
The two men in my life whom I love the most turned out to be the main monsters of my life.
And, sadly, one is my dear husband and the other is my father.
Sigh…
I keep weeping inside Cyril's ward immersed in my own misery when a voice brings me back to my life.
"Will you stop crying?"
I look in the dark, I must be hallucinating, Cyril seems to be asleep but still, I take a step cautiously.
"Are you awake, Cyril?" I raise my brows, my voice is hoarse.
"If a witch is going to weep like this, how an angel is going to stay asleep." He teases and I smile with teary eyes.
"Angel, and you, huh, I doubt…" I scoff and then switch on the light in his room.
"Ahh…" He exhales and then covers his eyes.
"What happened?" I ask anxiously, my smile fades instantly.
"Nothing, sis. It takes some time to get used to the light." He says in a low weak voice and I walk towards him and then remove his hand gently from his eyes.
"Cyril, how are you?" I hold his hand tightly and lean because of my shadow the lights are not getting into his eyes and he is finally able to open his eyes properly.
"Why did you leave us, sis?" He questions and I look away in guilt.
"Cyril… There were some reasons." I bite my lips feeling anxious.
"Reasons? That couldn't be discussed with your sick brother?" He looks at me with blame in his eyes and I frown in stress, "Cyril, please don't make me feel guilty."
"Are you guilty then?" He inquires and I nod my head.
"You shouldn't have left, sis." He inhales with his eyes scanning my face quietly.
"I had no choice," I mutter in guilt.
Alas…
"I know, after all, I wasn't able to protect you." He sighs in remorse and I squeeze his hand to comfort him, "I am protected by God, and I am happy." I give him a wide smile that definitely doesn't meet my eyes because the way Cyril responds to it, it says it all.
We chatted and I looked at his weak appearance. He is weaker than before, almost like a skeleton, I think Cyrus would weigh more than him and that reminds me of Cyrus and Aaron, as I told Cyril excitedly, "I have a surprise for you."
And he immediately responded with a meaningful smile, "I know you have a son, Brother-in-law told me about him. I have seen Aaron's pictures too."
And I suppress the urge to roll my eyes, the way he mentions Andrew, his face brightens up so much. Why? Why is this man making an effect on my brother???
"Still, there is a surprise," I tell him with a clenched jaw, I don't know why but I am furiously mad at the way Andrew has become a part of my family's life, why? What benefit would he get by showing himself good in front of them?
With a foul mood, I left the ward hoping I won't encounter my father and just then I bumped into a known person.
"Tess, my child." My mother pulls me into a bear hug and although I have cried my heart out in the ward, I still couldn't help but wet my eyes by feeling her warmth.
"Mom." I choke in a low voice and she hugs me tighter.
"Why did you leave us, Tess? You should have come back to us." She complains while I keep shaking my head with tears falling uncontrollably from my eyes.
How could I return to them in that critical situation, how could I?
"Mommy," I hear a shout and turn to look behind my mother, Cyrus is walking towards me with a bag of chips and a juice box, my little hungry monster while Aaron is in Andrew's arms and he is wearing a mask now, and gloves too.
"Aaron." I worriedly sprint towards Andrew and hold Aaron, "What happened to him? Why is he wearing a mask?" I ask in one breath, carefully scanning Aaron in my arms, did something happen when I was meeting Cyril?
"Nothing happened, this is just for safety precautions." Andrew answers and I heave a sigh of relief.
"Mom, have you met…" I begin to introduce the kids to my mother when she interrupts me with a soft smile on her face, "Andrew has already introduced us."
And I return her smile with tight lips.
I hold Cyrus's hand and then take him to meet Cyril, Cyril looks overwhelmed after seeing my twin sons, after all, he has become an uncle to two.
Hah, who has thought about this, ever?
I didn't see my father again and when the kids were playing with Cyril and chatting with him, I noticed that my mother was bandaging Andrew's hand. Why?
Instead of focusing on me, her daughter who has returned after 4 years, she is here taking care of the man who has just ruined her daughter's life. I don't understand what spell Andrew had done on my family.
"You should be careful while playing with cats." My mom scolds him lightly and he looks up meeting my gaze, "That cat was very wild, though."
"Indeed." My mother agrees and I feel like flames are looming from my ears and nose. I am furious, hell furious.
We all are busy with each other, when a nurse comes over that must be the one Andrew had asked me to look for and informed us that visiting time is over now.
Hugging Cyril for the last time, I leave the ward with the kids, Andrew and Mom follow behind.
"Where are you all going?" My mother questions.
"Uhm, to the hotel, mom," I answer.
"Hotel? No way, you all are coming home." My mother states and I frown.
"No, mom, how could we," But she interrupts stubbornly, "It's done, Tess." I look at Andrew for help but he remains quiet.
Useless Man.
I don't want to encounter my father again but mom is persistent in taking us all home with her.
Sigh…
Kids are over excited to see their Granny's place and I smile happily looking at the huge smiles on their faces. For them, I can encounter anyone, this is just my dad.
It's ok, Tess.
Ignore him, and nothing will happen.
I try to console my anxious heart.
Andrew parked the car in a beautiful compound, this place looks expensive and highly rated. I get down in a daze and look at the huge building in front of me.
"Mom, you live here…" I inhale with a doubtful look.
"Oh, yes, Andrew has chosen this place for us." Mom reveals and my gaze immediately falls on Andrew.
So, this is how he got into good cards by bribing them like this.
Bravo, such a cunning man, he is.
We enter the apartment and all I could see is simplicity and elegance. I walk towards the mirror door of the balcony from where I could see the beautiful sea.
Gosh, this view is so amazing, I wonder how the sea would look in the morning.
My mother immediately turns on the heater, after all, it's freezing in here.
We all settle in the house, it's a 2 BHK apartment, and I know this 2 BHK would cost a fortune, but for Andrew, I am sure it wasn't much.
"Tess, go and freshen up, I'll bring dinner for all of you." My mother says politely and I hold her arm shaking my head, "No, mom, I am coming over to help you." And then I turn to Andrew, "Andrew can take care of the kids alone, no worries, right?"
He looks at me for a moment, and then nods his head in approval, "Yeah, no worries."
With a warm smile, I hug my mom and we both walk to the kitchen together.
"Tess, please drain the rice." My mother commands and I obey, we both indulge in making dinner when suddenly my mother starts to sniff with red eyes, "Mom, what happened? Have you hurt yourself? Go back, I'll take care of the food."
I take away the knife from her hand but she just keeps shaking her head in refusal.
"Tess, dear, I had never thought that this day would actually come when you would return with your family… I'm just… so happy… to see you back, dear. You have made the right decision by returning to Andrew, he loves you a lot." My mother holds my hand, her voice hoarse and emotional.
I stare at her dumbfounded, Right decision? Returning to Andrew? Does Andrew love me?
Mom's words create a massive buzz in my mind and I start to get a severe headache, "Oh, the curry," My mother hurriedly marches to the cooking pot leaving me alone with my perplexed thoughts.
The kitchen gets filled with the aroma of food, our chats, and light giggles making my heart at ease.
At the dining table, I feel like pins and needles under me, but when my mother informs me that my Dad isn't going to join, I sigh in relief and then finally sit at ease.
"The kids will sleep with me," My mother announced while taking Aaron from my arms who is half asleep.
"Mom, they will trouble you." I try to stop her but she is stubborn as a bull, taking Cyrus's hand she asks him to wave goodbye to me, and that little ungrateful man walks away with his grandmother happily while leaving me alone with his evil father.
"You sleep on the couch," I point at Andrew's face, and his brows furrow, "You really want to do this now?" He wraps his arms around his chest trying to dominate me and I stare back straight into his eyes not showing a single hint of backing away from him or being influenced by his manly power.
