Chapter 204 Aaron's Miserable Health
1669words
I am furiously mad at the way Andrew stop me from feeding my own son. How dare he...!!!
Aaron's face looks too pitiful. Doesn't he have any humanity left in him? Taking out his anger on food? On little child?
I speak out emotionally without my mind thinking properly and I know I have crossed the line when the veins on his forehead pop in anger and his eyes turn red. I know something bad is going to come when he glares at me and then suddenly Miss Celine's anxious cry takes both of our attention immediately.
"Sir Andrew."
Andrew rushes to the kitchen without saying a word and I follow him behind anxiously.
Miss Celine is holding Aaron and there is a whole mess on the kitchen floor that proves that Aaron has puked his breakfast.
"He wasn't able to digest..." Miss Celine begins and before she would say another word. Andrew quickly takes Aaron from her hands and then storms out of the kitchen with a gloomy face.
I wanted to follow him but Cyrus's hold on my hand stops me. "Mommy, what happened to Aaron?"
"Uhmm... Nothing... He will be fine." I tell him soothingly and he nods his head.
"Mommy, is he going to get the needle now?" He asks me with fear in his eyes and I shake my head.
"No, he won't."
Cyrus had always been scared of needles and whenever he gets sick it's difficult to give him a shot. I still remember the way the doctor got exhausted while trying to give him a shot it was very much difficult to convince him and calm him down.
I know Cyrus is petrified as I crouch down and pick him up in my arms. "Mommy, when you and Dad leave the kitchen. I give Aaron another piece of pancake." He whispers in my ear and I look down at him stunned.
Is it because of pancakes Aaron threw up?
Instead of going to the third floor, I go back to my room with Cyrus. I still remember the way Andrew storms out with a gloomy face as though I am the one to blame for everything.
There is nothing for me and Cyrus to do. I open my bag and take out Cyrus's coloring book. I hand him the book so it would kill his boredom but my heart feels anxious for Aaron. I wonder if he is ok and not in bad condition.
KNOCK ... KNOCK ...
The door knocks and Miss Celine enters with a tray of food in her hands.
"You haven't had your breakfast properly, Miss. I am afraid again you would feel weakness." She says with concern as she places the tray on the table and then gives a gentle smile to Cyrus.
"He looks very similar to Sir Andrew." She states and I stay tight lip.
"Miss, I don't know what happened with you but ..." she pauses for a moment, "Sir Andrew isn't a bad person."
There we go again, her praises for Andrew begin again.
"Miss Celine, please it would be better if you don't mention Andrew in front of me," I tell her expressionlessly and she nods her head looking helplessly at me.
"If you need anything, Miss. You can tell me." She says politely and just now I have noticed how older she has become.
"Miss Celine." I stop her and then pull her aside, "Can you please tell me if Aaron is being mistreated in this house?" I ask anxiously.
Miss Celine gives me a doubtful look, yes, I know it's stupid to ask anything about this but the way Andrew looks strict with Aaron I am afraid that he has been treating him very coldly all these years otherwise why would he ask for me, now?
"No, Miss. Everyone loves Aaron a lot, in fact, Sir Andrew spends all his time with Aaron after work. He has been a caring and responsible father. Even Miss Swan adores Aaron. He is the apple of their eyes." She keeps praising both duos of sister and brother and I sigh with ease.
Thanks, Lord. It was only my misconception.
"Your worry as a mother for your son is justified. But I assure you that Sir Andrew has taken care of Aaron perfectly. He has been an admirable father. Please, never doubt him." She holds my hand and I see the authenticity in her eyes, she isn't lying whatever she is saying is 100% true it was me who assume things in different ways.
"Thank you for telling me this, Miss Celine." I squeeze her hand and thank her wholeheartedly.
"You should go and check on Aaron, Miss. I will take care of Cyrus. Don't worry." She suggests and I couldn't help but nod my head at her in trust.
I glance at Cyrus he is still busy in his coloring as I walk out of the room leaving him alone with Miss Celine.
DING
I enter the room quietly and find Andrew sitting on the rocking chair with Aaron in his arms. Aaron looks weak and exhausted and he is groaning in pain. "Ahh.."
Before I am able to open my mouth, I hear the door behind me open, and then Andrew's voice comes over. "Thankfully, you're here. I am not able to find his stomach medicine, go and bring me that, fast."
"Ok." I hear a feminine voice and then I see the back of a young woman who walks towards Aaron's wardrobe and starts rummaging through drawers as though she knows each corner of his room.
She brings the medicine to Aaron and then feeds him while he keeps squirming from pain from time to time.
"What happened this time?" The woman asks and Andrew replies sternly, "Pancakes." while his gaze stays firm on me and I look away in guilt.
"Oh, poor soul. It's ok, it's going to be fine." The woman coaxes him as Andrew rocks, Aaron, in his arms to calm him.
"Selina, could you please cover us with a blanket and also inform Miss Martha about the change in his diet for today," Andrew orders her in a light voice and she nods her head. "Don't worry, he would be fine." She says sweetly to him and I roll my eyes displeasingly as they both didn't acknowledge me in the room for once.
COUGH ... COUGH ... COUGH
I cough to take their attention and finally, the woman withdraws her gaze from Andrew to me.
"This?" She points at me and before I would tell her my identity, Aaron whines in Andrew's arms, "Mommy."
My heart tightens as I look at his pitiful state, "Aaron." I take a step toward him and then sit on the ground to get at the same height as him. "Mommy is here." I hold his hand and kiss his knuckles lovingly.
"I like the pancakes, Mommy," Aaron reveals and I smile with guilt.
Oh boy, I shouldn't have fed you the pancake. Mommy was just being stubborn before, Aaron.
"When you will get better, then surely I will feed you more but until then you have to stick to your diet, Aaron," I tell him strictly and he nods his head obediently.
"My good son." I caress his hair affectionately and he leans in my touch.
My sweet boy.
He closes his eyes to sleep as I keep caressing his hair. "Mommy, don't leave me." He murmurs in his sleep and my eyes start to sting from grief. "I won't," I say in a choked voice and then keep his little hand on my cheek feeling his warmth on my skin.
He is too much weak compared to Cyrus. My heart feels squeezing pain when I look at how miserable his health is.
"You should go back to your room, now." I hear a voice over my head and look up to meet the dark gaze of Andrew on me.
"Just a little more time, please." I request him and he looks amused by the change of my tone.
"I didn't know that ... the pancakes would make him sick," I mumble guiltily.
"If you would ever listen." He says with slight anger and I lower my head not having the courage to look into his eyes while I am at fault clearly.
"Thank you for taking good care of him in my absence." I thank him as Miss Celine's words still ring in my head.
"That was my responsibility as his father." He replies curtly.
"What did you tell him about me?" I prompt.
"Nothing." His reply was immediate.
"Nothing?" I look at him stunned.
"We never mention you." He reveals and my heart drops with disappointment. "But, I would never think of making him an orphan," He says as a taunt I know he is still not letting go of the topic of Cyrus.
"I couldn't give him any false hope," I say in my defense.
"I should put him on the bed now, he's asleep," Andrew says and I stand up from the ground and move aside giving him the way.
He put Aaron on the bed and then cover him with the blanket gently while I watch him in fascination, he is indeed a caring father to Aaron. I wonder how Cyrus would feel when he gets to feel his care and love. He would jump from happiness and would never let him go away from his life. But one day, I and Cyrus have to leave. We have no future as one family.
Andrew has brought us back here because of a purpose, a purpose of saving Aaron otherwise he would never look for me and Cyrus.
He doesn't care about me and I wonder if his care and concern are genuine for Cyrus or is it just because he needs Aaron to get treated nicely?
Well, we'll see that in a few days, hopefully.
I wonder, why his sister hasn't shown herself yet?
