Chapter 131

Golden's POV.

Seeing him mourning for her hurts me, but I'm glad that he's able to see her in her last days before the heavens take her. We stayed there for a couple hours when he finally decided to leave. I was about to open the door when Steve's face greeted me. My eyes grew big.

He looks like he's been there for so long.

"Is he done?" he asked in a flat voice. I looked at him with round eyes. He doesn't sound mad at all. It was a genuine question. "I heard he's Freeda's real parsen. Can I talk to him?" He gazed at me. I gulped nervously.

"It's not for me to decide, Stev—" Josh cut me off.

"What do you want to talk about?"

He's looking straight into Steve's eyes. I don't know what to do. I can't read them. I see no emotions on their faces. My heart skipped a beat when Steve suddenly pushed me gently to the side. He faced Josh.

Oh gosh...

"So, you're the real man?" he mumbled while staring at him. Josh nodded his head. "What happened? How did she ended up being my parsen? Why did you let her?" I see no hint of anger in his voice. It's pure curiosity.

"I know that I failed to protect her. She wanted me to marry another girl. It's what my parents wanted. I told her no, but she insisted. She joined the Golden mission to stay as far as possible from me." He heaved a sigh. "And she met you," he added.

"I—I'm sorry..." Steve's voice broke. "I wasn't able to protect her. It's my fault that she's dead. I'm very sorry!" He cupped his face.

My heart clenched.

"I'm sorry too."

Now, it's clear. Steve's true parsen is indeed dead. She died of natural death. I feel bad for him. He didn't had the chance to know her. I promised him that I will help him find his parsen. Although it's quite impossible for it can only be done on the outside world.

"How did it go?" I asked. Damon turned his head at me. He's been silent since he came back from the appointment he set up with Mapheus. "Is there something you want to tell me?" He smiled softly at me.

"No. It's just that. I happened to see God Hlaford talking to Mapheus when I got there. He asked why I came there and I had to lie to cover up our secret mission."

My brows arched. God Hlaford was never the type to make unnecessary discussions with busy entities. Why would he take his time there to speak with Mapheus? Unless he wants something from him or Mapheus called him.

"Were you able to set up an appointment though?" I asked. He nodded his head.

That's good then.

"You took Josh to Freeda's deathbed?"

He walked to the bed and sat beside me. I slowly wrapped my hands around his waist. Damon rest his chin on my head. He doesn't have to tell me that he's exhausted. I already know just by looking at him.

"Yeah. And guess what? Steve saw him there. I thought they would be fighting, but they turned out to know each other's pain."

"Is he doing okay on the room we provided him?" he asked.

"You won't believe it. Steve invited Josh to stay in his room. It was a little unexpected that's why I was a bit skeptical of letting him, but he said he's okay and he would like to have a conversation with Steve."

"Wow. That's nice."

I don't if it's just me, but I feel like someone is watching us. I turned my head to the open windows. It's so high that no one can reach it. Is it possible for other Chosens to watch us from there. And if ever yes. Why would they watch us?

"Are you okay?" he asked in a worried voice. Damon followed my gaze. His eyes landed on the open window. "Are you cold?" He hugged me tighter.

"N—No, I'm fine. I just feel like we're being watched."

"Watch?" he repeated.

"Y—Yeah," while still looking at the open window. But still. All I see is the pitch black darkness of the night sky. I don't know why, but there are no stars tonight. It feels dark and gloomy for some reason. The palace has always been silent, but why does it seemed more quiet than usual?

I was about to land my eyes on somewhere else when a pair of glowing red eyes suddenly blinked in split seconds.

"T—The serpent!" I blurted nervously. Damon's brows furrowed. He looked directly at the window, but he sees nothing. "I saw a pair of glowing red eyes from there. I think the serpent is alive!"

"W—What? Where?" Damon hides me behind his back as he vigilantly walked to the window. His enhanced eyesight scanned the outside of the window.

"There's nothing in here, baby."

"N—No! I'm sure I saw it. They were gigantic eyes. Stay away from the window. Close it!"

"Golden, calm down."

"No! It will attack us. Don't you remember what I told you before? They took God Gaviel's bludgeon because they needed something from there to wake up the serpent. I think they've woken it up successfully!"

"Baby..."

I nervously grabbed my sword and pointed it to the unknown monster outside our window. I don't why he can't see what I just saw. He has nore enhanced senses than me. How can ge not see those pair of glowing red eyes?

"You're hallucinating."

I looked at him. He's giving me a tired look. He doesn't want to believe me?

"I'm so serious right now. I saw a pair of glowing red eyes outside the windo—" He cut me off.

"We are one hundred twenty feet above from the ground. The serpent can only be ten feet. There's no way it can reach the size of our room, baby."

W—What?

"B—But..."

"Shhhh. You're just tired. Let's rest for now. Don't think too much about it. Josh's aura must have weaken your crystal. Mythos are known to opposed Chosen's inner core. You should sleep. Don't worry. I'll be here beside you. Close your eyes."

Damon strokes my hair. He buried my face on his chest. I confusedly closed my eyes as he hummed my name. Am I really hallucinating? It felt so real. Those eyes. It flashes the lights in our room. I can't be imagining things. That felt so real.

I will find it out myself tomorrow.

*Sssssssssssssss*

W—What's that?

*Sssssssssssssss*

"D—Damon?" I called while slowly opening my eyes. I looked behind me and my eyes widened when I saw a huge serpent. It's strangling Damon using its long and thick body. "N—No! No!"

*Sssssssssssssss*

"NOO!" I yelled. My eyes opened. The familiar stoned ceiling greeted me. I'm in my room. It's just a dream. A bad dream.

"Baby! Are you okay?" Damon asked worriedly beside me. I looked at him. He caress my cheek.

"I don't know why I've been seeing a serpent. This is the first time. It never happened to me before. What if it's trying to warn us?" I asked nervously.

"Hush now. Don't worry. I set up an appointment with Mapheus already. He'll help us find the real culprit. Don't be too bothered about your dream. I am here and I will never leave your side."

Tears started falling from my eyes. I can feel its warmth crossing my red cheeks.

This bad dreams must be the sign that we're getting there. We're close to finding the real culprit behind all these. I'll make sure that we will punish him. For everything.

And I will never ever forgive him.
